It's OK To Turn The Other Cheek

You don't always have to have the last word.

It's OK To Turn The Other Cheek

We've all been there countless times. Those situations in life when you just want to let someone have it. Inside you are fuming because you know deep down that you are right, or maybe you are too prideful to let go of the fact that you aren't. Growing up with a sister I definitely have had my fair share of fights and arguments. One minute you are laughing and the next you're both crying or pulling hair. I mean why do you think I'm not tender headed?!

One time I even called 911 on her because she wanted me to empty the dishwasher, but I had just gotten the wifi working and had to feed my Webkinz. Yes, that is 100% true, yes, the cops came and yes, we were grounded for the entire Christmas break and resorted to playing Scrabble. Needless to say, I have had my fair share of arguments, but what person doesn't?

Of course, life hands us situations that we don't want to be in - ones that are awkward, create tension and are painful. If you think that you will go to college and get away from petty drama or confrontations, you are wrong. The only different thing is that it's just you there to figure it out all on your own. You have to be discerning and handle things sometimes with no mediator. Although this may get you down, there is something that can be done about this.

My one piece of advice to you for when an argument arises is to turn the other cheek. Do not focus on drama. Instead, let your actions prove your words. Part of being an adult is knowing that it is not always the most mature thing to do to let people know your every opinion. Holding my tongue is still a lesson I am learning. After having experienced this first hand, I am here to tell you that it is okay to turn the other cheek. When confrontation arises, make sure to always aim to keep your head up. Be the bigger person by not always having to have the last word.

You want your words to be intentional and while you may think you know exactly what to say right then, most of the time you don't. Am I the only one who thinks of one thousand things I could have said differently after an argument? In the heat of the moment, you are consumed only with what thoughts that are probably not intended to build someone up. Learn to bite your tongue, turn your cheek and take a step back from the situation at hand. Confrontation is not something that we will ever be able to get away from, but turning the other cheek will save a lot of trouble when it comes to fighting and confrontations. It will show that you are willing to sacrifice being right so that you can salvage your relationship with that person. It is the smallest thing you can do to show that you are really trying to reconcile a friendship.

So, the next time you get in an argument, just take a deep breath and turn the other cheek. I promise you it will get you further in life and in your relationships with those around you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
