Somebody once told me I was a “crybaby." Someone else said I was too sensitive. I took these things deeply to heart, but then I realized, after many years, it is okay to be emotional.
The true sentiments we feel are often relegated to fine print because we do not want to show our weakness or -- what it may seem to others -- a lack of resiliency. We usually see others and their way of coping with difficult situations and ask ourselves, "Why can’t we be that strong?" That’s where we are wrong in our judgment. Our strength doesn’t depend on how well we can hide our sentiments to the world, but on the lessons that we learn from our hard times.
I have always struggled in trying to put on a strong face while also being emotional. I wondered if it would be better if I could just not feel at all. However, I know that my emotions are important and should not be ignored.
Our emotions create our own being and allow us to feel human. It's always important to express ourselves freely, no matter the occasion. We were created with emotions for a good reason, therefore we should embrace them fully. Our world is in need of more compassion, and the first step to fulfilling this is by accepting each other’s feelings despite our differences.
