You've suffered through finals. You've spent hours moving a year's worth of accumulated stuff out of your room, and you're finally on the road back home. You think about your summer and realize just how insanely busy it's going to be. Working an internship, a job, keeping up with your friends, living in a new city, this summer is going to be intense. Thankfully, things don't start up for a few weeks, and you try to decide what you're going to do with your precious down time. Travel? Visit friends? Be lazy?
Pick that last option, for a few days at least. You're physically, mentally, and emotionally drained by this point and you really need a few days to recharge. I know everyone has told you that you need to be productive this summer, that summers are important for your future and your resume, but that will all come later. Having a few relaxing lazy days are crucial every now and then.
You rarely get these days during the school year because class always gets in the way of those much needed naps, and the weekends are spent slaving over all the homework you were assigned for that next week. Take a few days to binge watch your favorite Netflix show. Go home and grab your family pet that you know you've been missing for way too long now, force them to cuddle with you in bed, and spend all day on your phone doing absolutely nothing. Have a movie marathon all day and never leave the couch, except to get snacks.
If you try to keep going at the rate you've been going with finals, school, and life in general, you'll eventually hit a wall and have a complete breakdown. Speaking from experience here, those breakdowns are not fun. Just last semester, I pushed myself to the breaking point and found out that actually breaking is not a fun thing to do. Things were thrown, tears were shed, it was a mess. The fallout was sleep for over 12 hours and a few days recovery. if you decide to take a few days off and relax and recharge, you can skip the throwing and the crying and the whole situation is much better.
Being lazy for a few days is ok, embrace it.
