In today's world, all you see is people trying to find a significant other. Nobody wants to take the time to be single and enjoy life. I'm not saying that it is bad to want to be in a relationship, because props to you for being in one from anywhere from 10 days to 30 years. What I don't understand is what is wrong with being single. I have been alone and independent for around five years now, and I don't see what the big deal is.
I guess sometimes it does get lonely without a significant other, but I have a best friend that is a guy that I can hang out with on a regular basis. Sure we don't "make out" or "hook up," but we do have a lot of fun. And that is all that really matters to me. I can go out and enjoy life by myself or with friends.
People seem to think that it's bad that I don't have a boyfriend, because its a social norm to have one. But why is that? Why is it so normal to people that you need to have someone else around to be happy? Why is it normal to have someone to always be with?
Don't get me wrong; I love my friends and family, but I don't like to be with them all the time. I also don't like talking to them all the time. Sometimes it is nice to just be alone and not have to worry about what other people are doing.
It seems to me that more and more people are depending more on other people than themselves. Which is great, you should depend on other people sometimes, just not all the time. I don't want to have to wonder all the time if my boyfriend is trustworthy and faithful to me. I mean, props if you aren't the jealous type, but I am.
I don't want to be defined as the girl who has to have a boyfriend, because I am my own person. And I know that you all are too. So if you do have a boyfriend, just make sure that you can still be who you are without him.
I am perfectly content with being alone for now. Until I find someone that I know can handle my sass, and is OK with not seeing or talking to me 24/7, I will be alone. And that's fine, because for now I can explore and learn to love myself. And I think that is the most important thing in life. To love yourself, before you can love anyone else.
