Why It Is Important To Treat Yourself

We focus on appreciating others and often neglect to appreciate our own selves.

First off -- we only get one self in this world. Always be kind to yourself. Sometimes I get through a lot more than I thought I could. When you hit those moments when you thought you could not make it through and you are still standing, it is important to step back and recognize it. Often we are much more capable than we give ourselves credit for.

Celebrate all that you’ve accomplished. Whether that’s taking time to watch your favorite show, buying yourself a small gift or indulging in your favorite food, it’s always worth it. You are always worth treating.

Some days are harder than others. It does not hurt to treat yourself a little kinder than usual on these days. You are not as indestructible as you may perceive. Holding in stress can take a toll on the body and mind. Make sure you leave time to decompress.

Other days are absolutely incredible. Don’t be afraid to celebrate your accomplishments. I fall victim to this sometimes. In an effort to not come off as conceited and arrogant, I keep my accomplishments to myself. You should reward your achievements. You worked hard for them.

Through the highs and the lows, it’s important to be there for yourself.

The older I get, the clearer it becomes that we must take care of ourselves, because no one else will. It’s your responsibility to treat your body and mind with the respect it deserves. So go for that latte, take that 20 minutes to watch your favorite show, buy those earrings you have been lusting after. You absolutely deserve it; Don’t even think twice!

To Boldly Go Where No Man Has Gone Before...

One of the things that I love most is space. I am a HUGE space nerd. Literally ask any of my friends. I was first introduced to space when my dad dragged me to see Star Trek. Since walking out of that movie theater in 6th grade, becoming an astronaut hasn't been just some wild dream that could come true.

Summer Slump

Summer is a time for fun in the sun, hanging out with friends, and living it up, but for some people, that's not the case. Summer is a nightmare for idle minds. Let me explain what I mean by that. For people with mental illness having the extra time to think and relax can be devastating for their mental health. Now, this isn't a problem for everyone but for some people who suffer from mental illness, this is a reality.
