Why is being "petty" glorified so much

Do people actually think it's a good thing?

Why is being "petty" glorified so much

I have seen a lot of things in this newer generation that I’ve grown to just accept. I’ve grown to accept certain rappers in music. I’ve grown to accept certain fashion choices. Hell, I’ve grown to accept that "Young Justice" got canceled on Cartoon network. But one thing I don’t think that I’ll fully understand or accept is the glorification of pettiness. For the past few years, I’ve seen through social media memes and videos about being petty and it is seen as the being “funny.” I know some people might be saying “well what’s wrong with that?" While some people might not see anything wrong with it I have my own problems with it.

You see, a lot of people can’t really narrow down a proper definition of what petty is. So I’ll just tell you what it means to me from what I’ve seen through social media or other people. Petty is someone who acts childish by going out of their way to get someone back by saying an insult or bringing up dirt on someone. For example, let's say you and your boyfriend/girlfriend had a falling out and are no longer together. Even though you would both be saddened by this, a normal person would just accept what has happened and move forward with their lives. Oh no, but not a petty person. You see a petty person would be the one to use a dirty secret that you told them strictly and tell everyone about it on social media just to make you look bad. That’s a petty ass person.

The reason I bring up this topic about pettiness is because I've seen so many people act like this at my school. Mind you, I’ve seen this with both girls and guys but I’ve mostly seen this been done by some of the girls. I think the biggest thing that I've seen with pettiness is that not only do they think its cute, but also they try and justify their pettiness based on their looks. Some people have the mentality of thinking “you know what, I’m petty but since I’m cute I can get away with it." I’m sorry…WHAT!? So let me get this straight. Just because you're good looking that means you have the right to act like a child because things don’t go your way. Is that what I’m hearing.? Maaaaannn if you don’t go somewhere with that donkey kong bullsh#t!

Like I said, only some…I repeat…SOME girls do this, not all. Just like guys can petty too. But the point I’m trying to make is that this whole thing of being petty is not cute people. Acting childish by trying to use dirt against someone or sneak dissing them is not going to make you any more attractive. Don’t let these memes on social media fool you. As funny as they may be, in reality, if you choose to be petty your ass will be single because trust me, nobody has time to be dealing with a 20 something year old who acts like they’re eight. I sure as hell don’t. Peace.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
