When it comes to knowing future endeavors, plans, classes, career paths, and events, I am always on top and organized. I hate the feeling of not knowing what's coming next, so I dislike getting invited last minute to anything. I work, so it's important for me to know in advance, call out, and prepare mentally for whatever it is that my friends and I want to do.
This past weekend, I completely ignored the usual routine of my life. With a friend of mine graduating from the University at Buffalo, I really wanted to see him, but I only had half of Saturday, and all of Sunday and Monday off, so the trip would be brief. Not to mention that it would definitely be super last minute, tickets would cost quite a bit and I'd have to freak out about how everything was going to work, but I ended up doing it anyway!!!
Courtesy of my Snapchat story, I enjoyed a very nice view from my friend's dormitory, and it totally opened my eyes to how it would've been like at a big university. I love Rider, but wow, it's so different to be at a school with its own zip code, hospital, museum, stadium, and like over ten eateries. Taking an impromptu trip was so satisfying because it wasn't planned, I didn't stress about it beforehand, and the results still paid off. I got to enjoy a little bit of a vacation before hectic summer classes began or I had to go back to work, and I loved feeling free. I by no means had the amount of money I would ideally want to go on a trip, but this was cheap enough that I didn't have to worry too much, and could easily pay off later.
If you're like me and stress a lot about the future, you need to make sure that you alleviate that stress somehow. Impromptu trips are not necessary for that type of relaxation; however, they're definitely useful! First will come a moment of shock that you actually went ahead and so brazenly made this decision, but the moments that follow are excitement. Wherever you go, the change of scenery and pace will benefit you and your health, trust me.
You can try going with friends too, but that delves into the territory of planning for too long, and that's what we are trying to avoid. Of course with all trips, even last minute ones need to have some organization, but it won't be something that you're pondering for days or weeks trying to put together seamlessly in your head. There are not as many expectations, but you're still just as ready to leave for the trip!
Next time you're feeling overwhelmed and possibly have the free time or enough resources, book a trip somewhere! It doesn't have to be on a plane, you could take the train. It doesn't have to be over several days, it could just be one good day, but the point is to go out there and experience life without manipulating your experience too much. Let everything flow together and culminate in a beautiful happening rather than have every minute planned so carefully. Your mind will enjoy the rest and you will appreciate the moments.
