I've been watching "Greys Anatomy" since the very beginning. That's right I have watched ALL twelve seasons and the two episodes of season thirteen. When I started watching it, I absolutely despised Alex Karev but watching him grow has made me oddly side with him in this Karev vs. DeLuca fight.
If you aren't familiar with what I'm talking about I'll gladly catch you up. Alex proposed to his girlfriend Jo. She said no. He was angry because he has been married and hurt before. She also wouldn't give him a reason. Alex storms out and Jo goes out with her friend and colleague, Stephanie to a bar. Stephanie had to leave but then decided to leave Jo with none other than the intern, Andrew DeLuca. Jo wanted to go home but obviously wasn't fit to drive so DeLuca offered to drive her. When they arrived home, Jo said she was tired and wanted to get into bed. She then tells DeLuca that the reason she can't marry Alex is because she's already married. She ran away from her abusive husband and changed her name. DeLuca at this point looks stunned standing in front of her. In walks an angry Alex and his mind thinks the worst. He then beats DeLuca half to death.
Now I know, what you're thinking. Especially because I said he beat him half to death. Even though I do not condone Alex's actions at that present moment, I don't think he should go to jail or lose his license.
Alex isn't perfect but he always protects the people he cares most about. He did not lash out at DeLuca randomly, he really thought Jo (the girl he loves) was in immediate danger. This may have had to do with the fact that his father used to abuse his mother and himself when he was younger. When Izzie, his ex-wife had cancer he was always by her side. He has also been in pediatrics for the last few seasons and has bonded with all of his patients. When Cristina left, Meredith was in despair. But, Alex was there to fill in for her as her person. He also stood by her side and helped with her children when Meredith's husband Derek died. Do I have to go on??
In conclusion, I hope that Andrew recovers very soon and can get back to work. I don't think Alex would ever do something like this again. Given the chance, Alex would use this as another chance to grow.
