Honestly I don't know if I will ever grow out of my Beatles obsession. It's like I go through phases with other artists where I listen to their music non-stop for awhile and then switch to the next, but The Beatles have always been my go-to when I don't know what music to put on. Then I can't stop listening to them, and I jump right back into that phase.
It might also have something to do with the fact that I'm taking a class called "Rock Music since the 60's" and The Beatles are mentioned for their success on average about ten times a class. It's my most enjoyable class this term and we watch a lot of their live performances which I can never get enough of. What I would do to see them live...I always tell my parents how lucky they were to be alive while The Beatles were thriving as one of the most popular band's in the world.
My college also put on an event for a screening of the most recent Beatles documentary, "The Beatles: Eight Days a Week." It was an amazing documentary; and to add to that, they had a famous news reporter that traveled with The Beatles when they were on tour in the late 60's come speak and answer questions afterwards. I couldn't believe that someone who was so tight with The Beatles was standing ten feet away from me. He was telling us about certain memories and jokes that they had, and I couldn't have been more jealous.
Another thing that he mentioned about them was how phenomenal they were as performers. Even with all of the crazy screaming fans at their shows, they still made the effort to give every performance an endless amount of energy that had everyone as their highest peak of happiness. I can't even imagine the excitement that would flood my veins if I were to ever see them live.
Along with being amazing musicians, I truly believe that the Beatles had good and genuine hearts underneath their fame and crazy actions. The people in the documentary were mentioning how the Beatles, growing up in England, were a bit blind to the idea of racism; not in a bad way. They chose not to be involved in the acts of racism that occurred in the USA, and when they were on tour they refused to play at venues that enforced segregation rules. They wanted everyone to enjoy their music, no matter what race or color skin they were. I really respect this about the Beatles and believe that they brought a huge aspect of unison and initiated the idea of live music being able to bring people together and how at times there can be nothing like it. Even as much as John Lennon upset people with his insensitive comments a few times, he took responsibility and didn't give up on winning his fans' support back, and was very prominent in refusing to believe in racist acts as well.
Overall, you could say I'm pretty obsessed with the Beatles. But I am obsessed with them for multiple reasons, and not just because of their music. They brought such an important concept to the table about how music can truly affect people, bring them together, and how some people rely on it for happiness. If you don't listen to the Beatles, and are not into music from back in the day, I still encourage you to learn about the Beatles and the affect that they had on the world. They are truly inspirational.
