Why I'm Proud To Attend The University Of Houston
Sweet Crude Reports

I am a transfer student attending the University of Houston. I've been here for one semester and I absolutely love everything about this school. I gotta say, I wish I would've started out here so I would have more time to enjoy the school and everything that it offers! I've compiled a list of just a few things that I love about attending the University of Houston.

1. Location

University of Houston is located in Houston, Texas. It's smack dab in the middle of everything. The campus is just minutes from The Houston Zoo (where U of H students get in free, also where our mascot, Shasta, lives). And, downtown is just a quick drive away. It's the perfect location.

2. Easy To Adjust

Being a transfer student (or an incoming freshman) can be hard anywhere. But University of Houston made it so easy! I never felt uneasy or scared beginning school here, as I was worried I would just be totally overwhelmed with the new living situation, all the new friends I would have to make, and all the new places I was going to have to memorize.

3. Greek Life

Although the university isn't "known" for having a big greek life, it is still very prominent on campus. The sororities and fraternities reside at Bayou Oaks. Our sororities and fraternities are well known for their charity work around town.

4. Athletics

Over the past few years, our athletic department has improved so much.I know I can't wait for football season to start up! Go Coogs!

6. Size

The campus as well as the classes are relatively small, so everything can feel a little less frantic.

7. Great Education

Every professor that I've had so far has really cared about me getting the most out of my class time. All of them do their best to teach you all that they can and make sure you are successful in your studies.

8. Getting Involved

Getting involved on any college campus can be a scary thought, but University of Houston makes it easy. Whether you choose to join a sorority, fraternity, religious group, or even The Odyssey! Joining a club is a quick way to get involved on campus.

9. Home Away From Home

Although I've lived in Houston all my life, and I'm just a measley 30 minute drive from my parents, University of Houston has become my home away from home. I feel safe and welcomed every time that I step on campus.

10. Atmosphere

The atmosphere on campus is absolutely phenominal. The campus itself is diverse, which makes it all around very special. There are smiling faces everywhere, everyone is there to help you succeed and they do their best to make it as painless as possible (because we all know college can be tough!)

I am so happy that I chose to attend the University of Houston, because I know everyone there is cheering me on to do my absolute best at whatever I choose to study, and they're there with me every step of the way. The people I've met in just one semester are people I hope to know and keep in touch with for the rest of my life. If you're looking for the absolute best college experience, then maybe you should consider becoming a Coog!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
