Why I'm Obsessed with Fall!

I'm from Michigan, where our seasons are actual seasons. We know exactly when Winter is coming because the frost hits first, like a freight train usually. We know that Spring has it's crazy warm/cold cycles; the days where you can wear shorts one day and have your snow boots on the next. We know that Summer is muggy as all get out because when you live in Michigan you can basically throw a rock and you'll hit a lake. And most of all, as a Michigander we know that Fall is the best season of them all.

I'm obsessed with Fall. I can't deny it. I've grown up in a place where Fall is the most beautiful time of the year. All of your senses are completely submerged in beauty, and it's the one season you wish never stopped. Unfortunately, it does and Winter swings in with all of it's cold, blustery days. Before I loose myself in the sadness that Winter brings, let me explain what is so magnificent about Fall.

1. The Colors of the Wind - Okay, it's not actually the colors of the wind that have me obsessed with fall. It's the colors of the leaves! During Autumn, the leaves change colors as they start to die off for the winter, and it's those colors that are absolutely breathtaking. Sure, those same leaves will eventually fall from the trees, but while they're perched up on their branches still it's a truly beautiful sight. I remember as a child riding in the car to my grandma's house in the country, and being stunned by the colors outside the window. When I'm going out to my grandma's house now, as an adult, the colors outside the window bring me back to that time again.

2. Best holidays ever! - I absolutely LOVE Halloween and Thanksgiving. Halloween because it's my people's new year, and Thanksgiving because there is nothing like having your family together to enjoy a holiday together. My best friend and I are hosting a Halloween party this year, on the same day as the Michigan/Michigan State game mind you, and I'm so freaking excited for it because I get to dress up and have fun with friends. Halloween was always my favorite growing up too. Who doesn't love being someone they're not for a couple of hours?

As for Thanksgiving, I am an extremely family-oriented person, so when I say I'm ecstatic to share a meal with my fairly large family I'm not being facetious in the least. Family comes from all over to enjoy time together. The women in the family tend to take charge of the kitchen, and the men...well, they try to keep the children out of trouble. The traditions of Thanksgiving are wonderful to me, and it's one of the many reasons I love Fall so much! Who doesn't love hearing their family giggling in the other room while they're making a meal that would be shared by all?

3. Mmm, tasty :o) - The tastes and smells of Autumn always arouse me. My taste buds soar when the first hint of pumpkin hits them. My nose perks up at the scent of apple pie baking in the oven. This kind of goes hand-in-hand with my love for Thanksgiving because whoever doesn't have pumpkin pie and apple pie at their Thanksgiving meals I feel extremely sorry for.

4. Pumpkin ev'rythang! - Seriously, everything. I love looking at pumpkins. I love carving pumpkins. I love making obscene faces on my Jack-o-lantern. I love the taste of pumpkin spice lattes from my local Biggby. I love pumpkin pie with a large layer of cool whip on top. I love my pumpkin scented body lotion from Bath and Body Works. I just love pumpkin. Call me a BWG, I really don't care. Pumpkin = Life.

5. I forgot...APPLES - Apples are a staple in the Michigan lifestyle. We have apple orchards all over. Going to apple orchards are one of my favorite things about Fall. When I was 17 I got my braces off at the end of September, and the first thing I did was went to my favorite orchard and purchased a big bag of Red Delicious apples. I hadn't eaten apples off the core in 2 years, and man did I miss it! Apple cider is a must as well. Hot, cold, room temperature; it doesn't matter how you drink it. Apple cider always tastes delicious. At least it does to me. Oh, and I can't forget to mention the smell of apples again. Apple everything smells good to me. I have a candle set that smells like apples, and reminds me of Fall every time I light them.

6. Ghoulish activities, corn mazes, bobbing for apples, oh my! - Sure, you could take part in an apple bobbing contest any time of the year, but who would want to? It's something you do during Fall! Same goes for corn mazes and haunted house tours. You might be able to do them during the Summer, but I can't think of a reason to unless you're completely obsessed with them. They're activities you enjoy in the Fall. It's kind of like bonfires. You can have bonfires all summer long, and we actually do, but they're so much more fun when you're in jeans and a flannel; holding a mug of hot coffee, feeling the cool, crisp air on your skin.

Fall is simply the best time of the year. At least, it's the best time of the year to me. Obsession doesn't even begin to describe it. It's a sense of complete happiness because the things that Fall brings make me smile. Maybe you'll find yourself smiling whilst reading this because you believe it to be true, too. :)

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
