Writing is more than a hobby for me. It's a part of life. You use writing for almost everything in this world. I love writing because it gives me a way to express myself. I know what you're thinking, that sounds very cliché. You're right, it does, but it's true. I don't talk to people to people about my feelings or what I'm thinking, I keep them inside of me until I almost explode, and when that time comes, I revert to writing. I either grab my laptop or a pen and paper and get to work, writing everything that's on my mind at that time. It's a great way to clear my head and get rid of stress. Nobody has to read it and you don't even have to save it. You can simply write it out and then destroy it. Writing comes easily to me. Everything from writing essays and papers, to just free-writing, I can do it all and usually get it done quite quickly.
I decided to become a content creator after a while of thinking about it, with some help from friends of course. My best friend from home and my editor-in-chief helped swing me in the direction of writing, the right direction I believe. My best friend writes for Odyssey in our home town, so she may have been a little biased, but she told me all about it and I loved it. She had been writing for a couple months before I started and of course, I read all her articles. What are best friends for, right? Page views and shares? Sounded like a plan to me, I was just trying to help a friend out. My now-editor-in-chief was also a big part of the decision. I met her when I came to my freshman college orientation. She was one of the Quest Assistants who helped students register for classes for their first semester. It just so happened that I was lucky enough to be one of the students she helped. Little did I know that she would be a huge part of my life now. We were talking about majors and she told me she was an English major and that she was involved with Odyssey and I felt like it was a sign. That was my chance to talk to her and get involved. Right then and there, after I got my registration stuff done first, of course, we exchanged contact information and set up an interview. Soon after, I began my journey as a new content creator for Odyssey, one of the best ways to get involved in my community and I couldn't be more blessed to associate with such a great company.
"Do you get paid?" "What class are you writing your articles for?" I get asked these questions all the time. It's not like that, nor will it ever be like that. Not everything is about money, and when I tell people I don't get paid for writing, I get some of the most bizarre looks back. I do it out of the love in my heart. Odyssey is not a class, nor a club on my university's campus. It's a full-blown company in the United States. It's very popular and if you've never heard of it, you should definitely check it out. You submit one article a week, it's not bad.
I write for Odyssey because it gives me a say in today's world. That's a hard thing to have, although it sounds easy. It's not, I can promise you that. There is no set topic on what I need to write about each week. I can literally pick anything in the entire world to write about. There're so many opportunities to create a great article because nobody can tell you what to do. If you like puppies, write about puppies. If you like politics, write about your views on them. If you like sports, write about it. Anything, the opportunities are endless. Odyssey gives me a chance to share how I feel at any given time through words that I might not be able to say, that's a great quality to be able to have.
Odyssey, it's so much more than a blog. It's a form of self-expression and a way for you to get involved in your area. Create, share, and read other people's posts all on one simple site.
