I'm sure everyone in their life at some point has called a "weirdo" or has been labeled as weird or crazy. This is especially popular among elementary school-aged children, but in my life I have learned a thing or two about this label, and the conclusion I've come to is that I would 100 percent of the time be labeled as "weird" than be labeled as "normal" or "boring." Another way to make this comparison would be that I would much rather be a Lilo in a world of full of Myrtles than be a Myrtle.
The problem in today's society with this label is that kids don't know that it's okay to be weird or to be crazy. What we are taught is that basically, we're always supposed to act like everyone else, and if we step out of that, that would be to take a step in the wrong direction.
This is not the case, my friends. If someone thinks that you're weird or that you're crazy for being you or for what you believe, then they're not going to step out of that way of thinking. You might as well tell yourself that you're you and as long as you make sure that you are the best you that you can possibly be, what they say doesn't matter.
My boss at work always says, "When someone tells me I'm weird, I tell them thank you." It's so important to know that being yourself is one of the greatest things in the world that you can be, and if someone thinks that you're weird, then that's okay. The world needs a little bit more authenticity in it. When you start being your true self, it gives others the push that they need to live their true lives and it gives them the push to love themselves. Honestly, everyone NEEDS to start living in their own weird ways. To start being the people that we were born to be--because everyone has a purpose. If you need to be your own true self to see what you can do, then take the first step.
One of my favorite quotes is by the weird and wonderful Dr. Seuss, and he says,
"We are all a little weird and life's a little weird, and when we find someone who's weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love."
I think "Lilo & Stitch" is such an important movie so that we can learn this lesson, because Stitch comes from a planet where everyone is an alien, and he comes to a planet where everyone is the same, but he comes in with such a different character that matches with Lilo's different character; that's why they're a perfect fit. Lilo doesn't fit in, and Stitch doesn't either. Even Nani is a little weird, along with David. They're all such different characters but they're a perfect family.
This will always be one of my movies because I will always choose to be a Lilo in a world of Myrtles.
