Why I Will Always Love My Tattoos

It doesn’t matter to me if they have meaning or not.

Why I Will Always Love My Tattoos
Laura Fletcher

Tattoos have always been an important part of my life.

As an artist, it is a way to express myself with having different objects all over my body.

For the longest time, I always knew I was going to get at least a few tattoos. I remember always being “taught" by adults around me when I was little that tattoos weren't “professional" and/or “trashy". I obviously didn't care though.

I got my first tattoo only two weeks after my 18th birthday. I always knew that my first tattoo was going to be a camera. The camera, that is located on my upper right arm, is symbolic because of my love for photography.

I remember being so nervous since I had no idea what to expect. I took my two friends with me so I could have some emotional support and they wanting to see if I would chicken out at the last minute. They were filming my reaction and holding my hand in case the pain would be too much for me.

I remember when the needle hit my skin. The pain wasn’t too bad. It just felt like someone was pinching my arm over and over again. Since I knew the process of getting the tattoo wasn’t that bad, I knew I would be having a new addiction with getting ink.

I didn’t wait too long for my next tattoos. Six months after my first tattoo, I got my two hand tattoos, pictured above, which are the number three and the equal sign.

The number three on my right ring finger has been my lucky number for as long as I can remember. The equal sign on my left right finger obviously stands for equality when it comes to love and marriage.

My next two tattoos are stick and poke tattoos. It’s DIY process where you use a needle and India black ink that you can buy at any art store or at any art section in a store Iike Walmart. My first stick and poke is a triangle on my left leg near my ankle. This tattoo has no meaning at all. Just for fun.

My second stick and poke tattoo is a the letter H that is located on my right shoulder. It stands for my best friend Hannah. She has a the letter L in the same spot that obviously stands for me.

I will always love my tattoos.

I always hear people say “What if you hate them when you are old?” or “You know they will always be on your body, right?”.

I obviously know they will be there for forever. I can always get them covered up with more tattoos. I know I won’t ever hate them. They will always have a special meaning to me no matter what.

I plan on getting many more tattoos throughout my life. They are always a fun time for me. I love planning where the tattoo will be on my body. I love planning if I want to get colored tattoos or just regular black ink tattoos.

Who knows what I will have inked on my body next but I know that I can’t wait for it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
