A once-in-a lifetime opportunity.

Why High School Graduates Should Choose Regent

I’ve been blessed to attend such a great university such as Regent University. There are so many things I like about it, but here are three of them: Regent is a Christian college, is dedicated to helping students succeed and encourages students to get involved immediately.

The motto of Regent University is to develop Christian leaders that will change the world. The 2015-16 semesters were my first ones being physically on the campus. I enjoyed all the time spent getting to meet new friends, participating in Bible studies every Tuesday night and learning about the field I may one day be involved in as a career. But enough about me. Here are the top three reasons why high school graduates should choose Regent University:

1. It's located in Virginia Beach

Virginia Beach is a real nice place to visit. There are so many things you can do there. Go to the beach to do schoolwork, or just have fun in the sun. There are surf shops, stores and all kinds of cool attractions that are available nearby.

2. The friendly faculty/staff members

When you first move into the dorms at Regent, either in the Commons or in the Village, there are people ready to greet you with a smile and help you get settled. These people are known as the Residence Assistants. There are advisers for helping you prepare for and search for part-time jobs or summer internships, and they are ready to answer to answer any questions you have for them.

Then there are those who are involved with ministry and serving. They, too, are interested in your life and want to get to know you better. And if you have any prayer requests or testimonies you want to share, these people are not going to disappoint. The point is, the entire faculty and staff at Regent University are there to serve you in all capacities.

3. Events

There are so many awesome and wonderful events and activities that occur during the fall and spring semesters. For instance, the Regent University theater program regularly puts on performances that reflect and follow the college’s Christ-like attitude. The Student Activities Board(SAB) organizes and schedules fun and creative activities for students, in spite of their busy school plans. This is awesome. And Campus Ministries plans every Thursday night a student-run church service called UnChapel, and once a month, a special Night of Worship featuring top Christian artists such as Rend Collective, Bryan and Katie Torwalt and many more.

There are other reasons why you should attend Regent University, but I felt that these were the important ones. If God stirs your heart in another direction, I understand. But if you want to learn more of God and what he has in store for your future, then going to Regent University would be an excellent place to start.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
