Why Having An Older Sister Is The Biggest Blessing

The one who has kept you grounded.

Why Having An Older Sister Is The Biggest Blessing

When it is said that having an older sister is your biggest blessing, it is true. You have someone to be your role model as you are growing up, maturing and turning into the person that you will be for the rest of your life.

Someone to look up to

It always seemed like you knew exactly what to do with your life and knew how to overcome challenges that presented themselves from watching how they turned out . You were always killing it on the field, in the classroom, and with anything else you seemed to set your mind to. I wanted to be just like you even though there were times you thought of me as nothing more than your annoying little sister who kept getting in the way.

Another closet to look through

I've always been jealous of your closet so I have tried to copy your style. Sometimes it even meant going into your closet to take a shirt or a dress that seemed to look a little lonely hanging up. It looked like it wanted to be worn so I would take it.

Someone to help you make the hard decisions

You have given the best advice throughout my entire life, even when the advice seemed harsh. You only did it out of love because you experienced the exact problems that I have and wanted to make sure I didn't have to make the same mistakes. Whether it was something school related or a life issue, you have always known exactly what to say to help me out.

You have someone to knock you down a few pegs when it's necessary

Whenever I seemed to be too high on myself or said the wrong things at the wrong times, you have known exactly how to bring me back to ground level. Sometimes it meant shouting at me, other times it meant you needed to pull me aside to have a talk, either way it was always done for the right reasons.

Someone to joke around with at awkward family gatherings

There have been numerous family functions that were boring, to say the least. We would have to entertain ourselves, which was OK because it meant we had to come up with something fun to do.

The nickname you created that the whole family now says

You have given me many nicknames throughout my life and they have all seemed to stick. You started the "nug revolution," as you call it. It started out as a name that only you used, then Jacob, mom and dad, and now everyone uses it.

She is your biggest supporter

You have supported me with every major decision in my life from classes to take in high school, to the pros and cons of picking a college, to all of life's biggest choices.

She lets you hang out with her and her friends

Of course you want to be considered "cool" by her friends, and if they let you hang out with them it makes you feel just that way. They are older and more mature so as you're growing up you secretly wish they will invite you to hang out with them.

Someone to back you up with family arguments

Every family has arguments from time, some bigger than others and having a sister to back you up makes them so much better. They can make points you would've never thought of and can persuade the other side so that they are the ones in the wrong.

You have a forever best friend

She is your first friend and has seen you at your best and worst but loves you anyway. No matter how many times you fight, you know they will always have your back through it all.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
