Have you ever wanted to come home and just unload your whole day onto somebody without the fear of judgement? Have you ever wanted to just be able to release your stress without the fear that your friends will need to ask questions? Have you ever just wanted somebody to cuddle with you on the couch while you watch your favorite show? Well, you’re in luck that dogs exist!
I know that each and every person has their own preference of pet. I am one of those people who believes having a dog is one of the best things there is. Being a dog owner has its perks, and I’ll gladly share them with you.
Companionship
The first perk to being a dog owner is that dogs are the best silent company that you could ever ask for. Yes, it's true that they don’t speak or communicate with you on an understandable verbal level. However, through their silence you know that they hear everything you say even if they can’t reply back to you. Being a dog owner, eventually you discover that even if you have no full proof of it, you know that your dog on some level understands you and hears you fully.
Cuddling
The second perk to being a dog owner is being able to have the best cuddle partner ever. Admit it to yourself, you like being able to have that fur ball curl up next to you and relax you. Every owner has this moment when all you want is that nice cuddle from your dog.
Greetings
They give the best greetings ever! When you and your dog love one another, no matter where you’ve been or how long you’ve been gone, you’ll always get that happy greeting. Even if your dog isn’t a puppy anymore you still get that face full of drool to show that they missed you and that you shouldn’t leave them again… despite you being gone for all of five minutes to check the mail.
Common Interests
They like what you like. Sometimes it's hard to find that friend that likes most of things that you like. With your dog, you’ll hardly ever find differences between you two. As they say, a dog is a man’s best friend, and it starts with your similarities and your dislikes. If you hate that little dog across the street that barks at every single thing, then you can bet that your dog probably hates that dog too.
Entertainment
Dogs are funny and the things they do are just hilarious. If you ever watch your dog then I can guarantee that there is at least one thing they do that cracks you up. It’s unavoidable. For instance, my boxer-pitbull mix Rock believes that he killed a deer. After alerting the whole family to his discovery of the dead deer, he made it his business to prance around as if he had just won the World Dog Show first place prize. It’s pretty laughable, so whenever there’s mentioning of a deer we just let him have his moment of glory.
Loyalty
Their loyalty is completely unwavering… almost. Let’s admit it, your dog will not lose its loyalty. As long as you treat it right and show it the best love and care, that dog will continue to show loyalty towards you. The bond that forms between you and your dog is something that can’t be broken. Take for example in the 1993 Disney Movie "Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey," where we see how determined a dog’s loyalty is to his master. In the movie we see three pets—a Golden Retriever, an American Bulldog, and a Himalayan cat—who all travel across the country to be back with their family. Whose idea is it for them to take this really dangerous journey for a few house pets? The ever loyal Golden Retriever, of course.
Love
And finally…they love you unconditionally! Your dog will always love you for you. No matter if you are short, tall, average, fat, skinny, fast, slow… they don’t care. Dogs aren’t picky. It doesn’t take much for them to love you. I know for a fact that Rock loves me.
