Growing up with a brother meant fighting over toys, the television, or even your parent's attention. I grew up with a younger brother who meant the world to me -- yes, at first I probably wanted to have a sister, but it all worked out in the end. I always had someone to play with growing up or later on in life, someone who seemed older than me to protect me or entertain me. Having a brother has been the greatest blessing in my life.
He's protective over you.
Yes, your brother is the one who you argue with, makes fun of you, or makes you want to pull your hair out. When it comes to someone else doing the making fun of, he isn't a fan and will always be there to protect you.
He doesn't hold back.
If you brother is anything like mine, he is always going to flat out tell you what he thinks about something going on in your life. He won't put it in a nice way or even try to. I always go to him if I need the hard truth about something.
He tries to cheer you up.
Sure brothers are aggravating, but when they see their sibling upset they automatically find ways they think will cheer them up. When you don't feel your best or just in a low place, he will always make sure to help out by encouraging you.
You will always have some sport to watch.
If you're like me and didn't play sports, then your brother made up for that. Every day was a different sports practice to go watch or go pick him up from. If it wasn't a practice to watch, it was a game to cheer him on at. Or if you aren't like me and played sports, then you have someone to talk to about the sports world.
He makes you laugh.
Brothers have the greatest sense of humor and know how to make you laugh. Sometimes it seems that he's watched every single comedian he can to make you laugh or that you're at one of their stand-up shows. They always know when you need it the most.
He's your biggest supporter.
While your parents, of course, support you, nothing compares to having a brother who is constantly cheering for you in everything you do. He's watched you from day one achieve so much and has been there to even help at some point. He loves to see you succeed and support you.
He's your best friend.
He may fight like cats and dogs with you on a daily basis, but at the end of the day he will always be your best friend. You've grown up together and have the same interests so you click. You both know all the same songs so you belt them out together in the car, you like the same movies, or you both like to do the same things together. You basically don't have to worry about making any friends because he will always be there as your best friend and brother. Brothers are like built-in friends, but in sibling form.
I may be a bit biased, but I have the greatest brother around, Brent.
