Why Having A Boy Best Friend Is So Important
Molly Ault

Growing up, my best friend was a boy. He was always by my side. We never had any problems. We were together almost every day. I never realized how much he meant to me until it was too late.

On October 30, 2015, he was killed instantly when a drunk driver crashed into his house. I never thought it would happen. I have never been the same since that day. I never realized how much of an impact he had on my life until he was gone. He made me a better person. I never lost what he taught me. He taught me that life is too short and you have to make the most of it. He taught me to make the most of every day. He taught me to never give up.

About a year later, I became super close with my now 3 best friends. I have known them for a while, but never really conversed with them. The day I did, was one of the best decisions I ever made. They have also taught me so much. Having a boy best friend is so important for SO many reasons.

1. They have NO drama

No matter what is going on in their lives, they never make it a bigger deal than it actually is. They really just don’t care about what other people think about them. They go with the flow and just live life.

2. They ALWAYS know what to do to make you feel better.

Yes, it does take them a while to get used to having a girl best friend. After that time, they will become your go-to person. I’ve been best friends with them for about 6 months and I don’t think there has been a single thing then they couldn’t help me with.

3. They become your family

Sure, even a girl best friend can become your family, but the relationship you have with him will be like no other.

4. Hanging out

This was one of the hardest things for me to adapt to. I always felt awkward, but then you become a major part of each other and it’s just like hanging out with anyone else. People start to assume things than you are dating when you spend one on one time with each other, but it becomes very easy to ignore them after a while.

5. They help you come out of your shell

Being best friends with 3 boys is NOT easy, but they bring out the best in me. If it weren’t for the three of them, I don’t know where I would be. They make everyday living so much easier and they bring more light to my day.

So, with all of this being said, I’m not trying to tell you that if you don't have a boy best friend, all I’m saying is that you should get one because they will make your life so much better.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
