Why I Have No Respect For Kanye West

When I was a sixth grader, my view of the world was obviously much different than the view that I have today. I loved to listen to music and my favorite artist (who is still my favorite today) was Taylor Swift. I admired how kind she was to others and was super stoked that she was nominted for The VMA's "Video Of The Year" for her song/music video "You Belong With Me," and when she won I remember cheering in front of the screen. All of the sudden, I see Kanye West heading on stage. I had known some of his songs and thought he was a pretty cool guy. Next thing you know, he opened his mouth, and well, you all know what happened next.

I was outraged! At eleven years old, I had never seen anything more disrespectful and horrifying than this in my life. (Okay. maybe that's a slight exaggeration but seriously, I was MAD.)

I vowed to myself that day, that I would never listen to Kanye again, and to this day I have kept that promise to myself.

Over the years, Taylor Swift forgave Kanye, which shows how great of a person Taylor is. I, on the other hand, could never find it in my heart to forgive him. There were plenty of jokes about their friendship and it did seem as if they were getting along, but as far as I was concerned, I still wanted nothing to do with him.

I am much older now and I look at things much differently than I did then and had ALMOST gotten over the whole "I hate Kanye" phase, (almost), until a few weeks ago. I knew he was releasing his album, which I still knew I would never listen to. I happen to be scrolling through twitter when my phone started to blow up with tweets and texts from people asking me if I heard Kanye's new song "Famous". I was not going to give him the time of day to listen to it but decided to look up the lyrics and they went a little something like this:

"Me and Taylor might still have s*x. Why? I made that b*tch famous!"

To say the least, I was very disappointed. First things first, it did not get me that upset when he referenced having s*x with her because I know that a lot of music, especially rap is about that kind of stuff and although I don't like that kind of music in general, I was willing to let that slide. But "I MADE HER FAMOUS"?! News flash Mr.West, T-Swizzle was already very famous before you decided to make a fool of yourself at the VMAs. End of story. Please and thank you.

He then went on and on about how him and Taylor Swift had some hour long phone conversation about the lyrics and claimed that Taylor was totally cool with it. Then Taylor made this super awesome speech at the Grammy's basically calling him out and addressing the issue.

Now Kanye takes to twitter with these crazy tweets saying things to the effect of him being the best living artist, how much he loves himself, and asking other people for money because he got himself in so much debt and is now pretty much broke,

With all this being said, I think Kanye West is a hot-headed, selfish loser who has nothing better to do than bring other people down to make himself feel better.

Come on Kanye, how could you be so heartless?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
