When someone me asks the oh so common question, “So what’s your sorority like?”, I don’t even know where to begin. If I had to describe Kappa Delta using one word it would have to be the cheesy, over-used: home. But there are so many more words that come to mind. Genuine. Loving. Accepting. Loyal. But most of all, home.
Being away at college is hard enough, but I couldn’t imagine doing it without my sisters. They keep me busy (very, very busy). They keep me entertained (usually laughing until I cry). And they keep me happy (for the most part). What I mean by “for the most part” is that they don’t expect me to be rainbows and butterflies 24/7. I’ve never met a group of friends who were so quick to have my back, and care about my problems. Not only do they care, but they have solutions to my problems. If the first one doesn’t work, my sisters don’t hesitate to try for a plan B, C, D, and all the way to Z. Kappa Delta has become my home away from home. The girls I call sisters are the perfect example of the quote, “Home isn’t always a place, sometimes it’s a person”.
I have made friends that will last a lifetime and some of the girls that I would want to stand beside me at my wedding. Friends who are always down to get food (lots and lots of food). Girls who have spent countless hours in the library with me from sun up until sundown. Sisters who have encouraged me to be a better version of myself, and have pushed me to take on new opportunities. For this, I am forever grateful because I know that I would have never of had the confidence and perseverance to do those things on my own.
I have found so much love in AOT, and would not trade a second of my time thus far as a member of the Eta Psi chapter at University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
“A Kappa Delta is not something you become, but something you have always been."
