Why I Hate Going To The Movies

Why bootlegs are getting a bigger box office

Why I Hate Going To The Movies

First off, I'm not saying that I hate the movies. I love going to watch my favorite movies, it's the movie theaters that make the experience bad. Now I haven't been to the movies in a while but 2017 decided that last year was pretty bad so they're making it up to me by putting out a good twenty movies for me to go see this year. So the theaters are definetely going to be getting my money. I've been to the theaters twice already and I remember why I hate going to the movies

Long Lines

I get that we all want to go see this movie but you don't have to get there two hours early and start a line that leads to the parking lot. This is why I could never do midnight premieres.

Insane Prices

Thirteen dollars for a movie ticket! This is the reason why people are doing bootlegs. They rip us off with these unbelievable prices once you hit adult status. Not even the student discount makes it any less expensive. I don't go to see movies until mattinae Tuesdays where I only have to pay four dollars.

Expensive Popcorn

I remember when a jumbo popcorn and soda combo was only five dollars when my mom took me to see Finding Nemo. Fourteen years later and you basically need to take out a loan to go to the movies. I gotta sneak in my own food than pay fifteen dollars for a small popcorn and Sprite.

Hunting for seats

Let me tell you the struggle trying to find a seat. They're aren't as great as the massage chairs at the mall but they've upgraded the past couple of years. But having to hop over legs and fight for the armrest isn't fun.

The People

I'm not a petty person but people can be really annoying at the movies. I don't want to hear you spoiling the movie or you complaining about why the guy on screen is is jumping off a building. It's fine to laugh but it's not Saturday Night Live.

Cell Phones

I know the mini previews at the movies telling you to turn off your phones is annoying but so is seeing a bright screen pop up in front of me in the dark. I get you're an important person but your notifications can wait until after the movie's over. Don't be that person who ruins it for everybody.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
