October 31st, a.k.a Halloween. The only day when it is acceptable to take candy from strangers. The time when you can dress up as anything you want and no one can judge you (they might, but they shouldn’t.)
Some people think that Halloween is meant for just little kids. I went trick-or-treating up until I graduated high school, and many people told me I was too old.
I enjoyed it. I was spending time with my friends, getting free candy, and dressing up in cool costumes. By high school, I was mostly cats or whatever I could put together that was cheap, but it was still fun and I still made an effort.
Why is it such a big deal if older children want to go trick-or-treating? Sure, the kids who come to the door with no costume and a shopping bag are a different story. But if I put the time and effort in, can you please stop lecturing me and just give me my candy?
If you are older and don’t think you are the right age to go trick-or-treating anymore, there are still plenty of things to do to make this holiday fun.
You could always hand out candy. As I got older and decided it is time for me to retire my trick-or-treating days, I enjoyed giving out candy. I loved seeing everyone’s costumes, and the joy on kids faces when they would get their candy. To make it even more fun, you could dress up while giving out!
The weekend before or Halloween night, some people throw costume parties. Usually, this is the older generation that hosts them. It just shows that every age wants to celebrate Halloween in some way. You could bob for apples, make themed treats, and have a contest for best costume!
If you are more of a home body, and want to stay in on Halloween night, there are plenty of scary movies to watch that will make you get into the Halloween spirit. Some of those movies include, but are not limited to Hocus Pocus, The Nightmare before Christmas, Halloween, The Addams Family, Freddy vs. Jason, and many others.
Halloween is a time to express yourself and be anything or anyone you want to be. For one night of the year, it allows us to be a different person and enjoy being that. It gives us a new identity.
So, if you are one of those people who think that Halloween is strictly for little kids, be open-minded this holiday. Maybe those group of high school kids just want to have one last taste of their childhood. Besides, who doesn’t want to get some of their favorite candy for free?
Whatever you are up to this Halloween, please be safe and have fun! Always be alert and use the buddy system. If you see anything suspicious, especially clowns terrorizing the neighborhood, please report it.
Stay warm. Eat candy until you have a stomach ache and have a Happy Halloween!
