Grandparents. They say yes when your Mom and Dad say no.
I have been blessed to have three sets of grandparents and a great grandmother. They have been with me throughout my life, supporting me and giving me all of the love in the world. When I had surgery on my ankle my freshman year of college, my Mema took off of work to take care of me. I couldn’t walk, so my family took shifts helping me get to where I needed to go.
Grandparents. They do the things for you and love you, not because they have to, but because you mean the world to them and they want to help you.
I’m from the south (if you’ve been following my articles, you will know I’m from a small community in rural eastern North Carolina), and family runs deep down here. When I’m home, my southern accent becomes more dominant and my name goes from Taylor to Taylor Lynn. However, to my Granddaddy Leve, I’m known as Sweetpea. I will never forget the day that I was at my grandparent’s house and one of their friends from church came to visit. My Granddaddy introduced me as Sweetpea. I was 17-years-old.
Basically, what I’m getting at is that your grandparents can embarrass you and drive you crazy sometimes, but they love you and you love them. Cherish them. Spend time with them. Answer the phone when your Mema wants to know about your day. Go sit down with your Granddaddy and listen to his stories about the old days.
So in honor of those sweet little grandparents of ours, here are a few reasons why you should love your grandparents.
They are full of stories.
They will always have a story to tell. You will never be bored in their company because they will always have something to talk about. They know so much about historical events and have lived through so much. My Great-Grandmama Doris was a little girl when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. If you get her alone and ask her questions, she’ll have a a lot to tell you about the way the world has changed.
They know so much.
My grandparents are full of wisdom. They give wonderful advice and have taught me so much about the world.
They have plenty of time for you.
It makes their day when you come over. They always have time to talk or to hang out. They always make time, too. You’re the most important thing to them because they love you. They have always made spending time with you and getting to know you one of their top priorities.
They have taught you so much in life and have passed more than items down to you.
Their love stories are incomparable.
I hope and pray that one day someone will love me as much as my Granddaddy loves my Grandmama.
You hope that you can become just like them when you get to be their age.
Finally, they love you more than anything in the world.
You are their precious grand-baby. They will always love you. They will always cherish you. They will always be proud of you.
