For those of you who aren’t familiar with Galentine’s Day, its a day proposed by none other than Leslie Knope in the show Parks and Recreation, and it’s superior to Valentine’s Day in multiple ways. To put it in Leslie’s words, “Oh it’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and boyfriends at home and we just come and kick it breakfast style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair minus the angst. Plus Frittatas.” If that didn't convince you, here are some reasons why you should be focusing on this holiday instead.
It’s an excuse to take a break and get together with all your friends at once.
If you and your friends get really busy during the year and can’t all seem to be on the same page, this is a great opportunity for you all to convene and have fun together with no regrets. The best thing is that there are no expectations or standards to live up to!
There are no awkward instances involved.
Sometimes Valentine’s Day may just be so confusing and overwhelming when you aren’t sure where a relationship is going. When you're with your friends nothing matters, and you don't have to overanalyze anything that they do!
You don’t have to worry about giving the right gift.
Even though you may put thought into the gifts for your friends, you don’t have to worry if your gift is too expensive, not expensive enough, or what your gift might mean, because they’re just your friends! The best thing is that you don’t even have to spend any money on it like homemade trash! They’ll love it no matter what because it’s not a contest. However, no one can beat Leslie Knope’s personal 5,000 word essays.
You don’t have to make reservations months ahead of time.
Valentine’s Day can be a mess when every nice restaurant is booked months ahead, and you may have to end up calling some random place you may not even like. Thankfully, February 13 is not an official holiday and, therefore, you can show up anywhere or anytime, like JJ’s Diner!
There is no stress over what you are going to wear.
There will be no unnecessary worrying or endless dumb questions such as “Do I look good?” because who cares what you look like when you’re with your gal pals? You can show up right after you rolled out of bed if you want, because you aren’t trying to impress anyone.
You realize that sometimes you need to treat yourself, and you don't have to focus on your significant other's wellbeing.
Donna and Tom would definitely approve this message. This doesn't mean you're selfish, because with all of your friends together in one place talking about their busy lives, you may come to the realization that you need to spend some much needed time dedicated to just you and your friends. There's nothing wrong with that!
It’s a time to act like goofs and do your thing without consequences (well it depends on how goofy you get).
You probably wouldn’t find yourself having a massive dance party or singing off-key karaoke with your significant other on Valentine’s Day. On Galentine’s Day, however, you can do whatever you want and you may not even regret it the next day!
