Scoop em' up while you can, ladies
When scouting out men as potential suitors, all women have a type. Yes, even those girls who claim to “date all types of guys.” We all subconsciously scroll through a mental checklist when evaluating a new man friend.
Some ladies swoon over colored shorts and baby blue eyes, while others can’t keep their heart from melting at the sight of beards and flannel shirts, but all women can’t help but fall for a guy with a sense of humor.
The category of “funny guys” doesn’t just refer to the “class-clown,” or the kid that’s constantly cracking jokes. Senses of humor vary dramatically, with one centering on sarcasm, others around wittiness, and the rest just enjoying dumb, childish jokes (I’m guilty). But funny guys make the best choice for more reasons than their funny remarks.
A girl isn’t always looking for a guy to constantly have her hunched over, holding her gut from constant hysterical laughing. She’s just looking for someone to make the bad a little less bad, and the boring a little less boring.
I’ve always seen a boyfriend as a partner in crime and someone to tag-team life with you. In order to do that, he has to be not only your rock, to give your strength when you lack it, but also to ease the blow of bad news. That means making goofy comments to make light of your failing exam score or being something to smile about when you get in a fight with your roommate.
He’ll make you smile, and possibly muster up a chuckle, after wiping your eyes from the hardest cries (This is the most cliche sentence I’ve ever typed; pardon me, and be thankful I didn’t say “He’ll make you laugh when all you want to do is cry”). Optimism and positivity are the rules he lives by, and refuses to let you drown in tears for long.
A goof of a guy also makes errands seem less excruciatingly dull. I question your sanity if laundry, trips to the bank or grocery shopping fall under your definition of fun. He can take the normality out of the most mindless tasks, and find a way to get half the store staring at you two and your ridiculous antics.
If you found a guy who’ll sing your favorite songs in the car (badly) with you, pick out the most ridiculous outfits in stores for you to try on or asks for children’s menus for the two of you, even on your fanciest of dates, you’ve found a keeper.
Girls are looking for a guy who knows when to be serious too. Finding a balance and deciphering the correct times to take things seriously is a skill worth admiring, as well.
When choosing the perfect other half, don’t base it solely on who has the room laughing the most. Pick a guy who can make you smile during any mood you’re in. Find someone who makes life less about the negatives, and more about the ridiculous things, like the eerie similarities between your calculus professor and a small chipmunk.
Toss aside the predetermined image of the guy you imagine taking cute Instagram photos with, and imagine which guy will be the best fit to make light of the awkward questioning at family parties.
A good test would be to see if he can make it through any episode of "The Office" without laughing. If he can, ditch the animal. He likely doesn’t have any remote sense of humor.
