Social media has been buzzing this week with the release of Netflix’s "Fuller House." The spinoff has all the cheese of a 90s sitcom, including the laugh of the audience at every corny joke. So why did I, along with so many others, feel the need to spend six-and-a-half hours watching 13 episodes of the revived sitcom?
1. Uncle Jesse
Have mercy, Uncle Jesse. He was always everyone’s favorite, and that hasn’t changed much. When him and Aunt Becky finally got hitched, you were so excited, but also extraordinarily jealous of her and their adorable relationship and family. (Also, two-part episode. Score!).
2. Catch phrases
Which was your favorite? “Oh Mylanta?” Or maybe “How rude” made it into your vocabulary as a child. Even without the return of the Olsen twins, they manage to throw America’s favorite “You got it dude!” into the show. There were so many more, but here’s a short list:
Cut it out!
Now way, Jose!
You’re in big trouble, mister.
Is it made out of wood?
3. The cast
So often, sitcoms or movies are remade using different actors/actresses. Not this time. It’s the same family that America knows and loves, just all grown up. And, may I say, they all have aged quite spectacularly.
4. Kimmy Gibbler
Everyone’s favorite annoying best friend. Surprise, surprise, she hasn’t changed much. She always made the show exciting, and she still does. You never know what the girl will do next, especially now that she has a daughter.
5. Group hugs
“Hug it out.” Danny Tanner is infamous for solving every issue with a group hug. DJ Fuller continues this tradition. You’ll catch a group hug or two in every episode and nothing warms your heart more.
6. The relationships
Steve! DJ may be recently widowed, but the show didn’t hesitate to bring Steve back around, but with a couple twists. Actually, the only thing they don’t twist is Steve’s relationship with food. Plus, there’s new young love in the show, there's crowd favorite Aunt Becky and Uncle Jesse, and Danny Tanner has a lady in his life too.
7. Comet Jr. and Cosmo
While Comet hasn’t made it 29 years, his ancestors have. The adorable Goldens are still man’s best friend and there through it all.
8. Sisterly love
Even without Michelle, there’s a sisterly bond present in the show. DJ, Stephanie, and yes, even Kimmy Gibbler, share multiple tear-jerking, heart-warming bonding moments.
9. DJ’s Kids.
Although they weren’t present in the original show, if you watch one episode of "Fuller House," you’ll fall completely in love with these kids. Jackson is relatable, Max is a mini genius, and Tommy is adorable. They almost make me wish I had three little brothers. Almost.
