I'm not going to try to convince you that breakups don't suck, because they do. They can hurt even if you're the one who decides to break things off. However, there are definitely a few pros to breaking things off with your partner, so here are a few of them in case you need a friendly reminder (like I did, tbh).
1. You have more time to devote to yourself
I'm not saying that after a breakup is the best time to "work on yourself," but you might as well put your new free time to good use by upping your self-care game. If you're stressed out by other factors in your life, use your newfound free time to de-stress! The same thing goes if you need to reach some sort of goal or achievement in your life; now's the time to do it.
2. No more sharing food
I know all of you know what I'm talking about here! The french fry stealing, the sauce dipping, the eating your leftovers even though you specifically told your S.O. that you were looking forward to eating that last slice of pizza for lunch tomorrow; that all ends NOW! Whoever said "sharing is caring" must have never shared a DQ Blizzard before, because I can say with certainty that sharing dessert is not nearly as romantic as the movies make it seem.
3. No more dealing with crazy parents (on both sides)
Now some people might not have crazy parents, but that's not the case for me. I was honestly terrified for my last boyfriend to meet them, and now I'm genuinely glad that he never did. Plus, I was sooooo stressed about meeting his, since they seemed so... normal. On the flip side, if you've already met your partner's parents and you all don't quite mesh, now you don't have to worry about that anymore!
4. No more trying to like what they liked
Maybe your S.O. had an obsession with trains, or perhaps they really liked a cappella music, but now you don't have to force yourself to spend time on the things that you don't enjoy! No more nights filled with watching boring tv shows, no more hanging out with people you don't click with, and no more bullsh*t. Trust me, you'll be saving your time, money, and sanity.
Now that you're armed with four AMAZING self-help tips, ditch the ice cream, get back out there, and go have a hot person summer.
