Most people may know her as Hermione Granger from the greatest series to ever grace this planet. Other people may not even know her at all (shame on you). There is so much depth to Emma Watson that is unknown to the general public, and I would like to take on the responsibility of sharing who she really is with the world. I want everyone to know her as the 24-year-old powerhouse actress, college graduate, kick-ass feminist that she really is. These are just 11 reasons why Emma Watson should be at the top of your girl crush list and definitely your Woman Crush Wednesday every week (or everyday for that matter).
1. Lets just get this out of the way now: obviously, her role as Hermione Granger in all eight Harry Potter films makes her the greatest person ever by default.
Our favorite little know-it-all. After going to eight auditions for "Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone" at the young age of 11 ,Emma was finally cast for the role of Hermione. From that point on, Emma had no idea how far this franchise would take her. The one thing to note is that she remained humble. Emma didn't let the fame of being a child actress control the rest of her life, as it so easily does to a lot of young actors and actresses. She still made the time for real life to happen all while pursuing her career and passions in acting.
2. In May of 2014, Emma graduated from Brown University with a degree in English Literature.
After starting at Brown in 2009, Emma had to take some time off in order to focus on promoting the release of the last Harry Potter installment. In 2014, she finally graduated. I think that she is the perfect example of someone who appreciates and values education but also likes having the balance of her schooling and her career. She is the ultimate queen of handling life.
3. She played a huge part in the making of "The Perks of Being a Wallflower."
Stephen Chbosky, author of "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," owes a lot to Emma. Without her dedication and passion for his book, it may have never gotten the financial backing that it needed to be made into a movie. In a Rookie Mag interview with Tavi Gevinson Emma said, "So it took more than phone calls: I actually flew out to L.A. and met with all the different studio heads and basically pitched the movie, which was crazy—I’d never done anything like that before in my life. [The story] just really spoke to my teenage experience and my friends’ teenage experiences."
4. She is a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, supporting gender equality through the HeForShe campaign.
HeForShe's mission is to remind people that gender equality is no longer just a women's issue, but a human rights issue. Through this campaign they hope to educate the world about gender equality though the powerful voices and stories of the people. It is one thing for Emma to support gender equality, but it is a completely different thing for her to try and make a change in our world. You keep doing you, Emma.
5. She keeps over 30 journals to chronicle all of the different aspects of her life.
Now this takes time and dedication. In an interview with Tavi Gevinson for Rookie Mag Emma stated that her journals have "given me a place where I can try to figure myself out, because those kinds of ideas feel too personal to put out into the public or even discuss with anyone else. It allows me to get things out of my head and work them out in a way that feels safe, which is really helpful."
6. While studying at Brown she became a Certified Yoga Instructor.
Emma decided that she needed to take up yoga due to her hectic schedule and jet-setting life. “I was like, ‘I need to find a way to always feel safe and at home within myself.' Because I can never rely on a physical place,” she said. Sometimes it is hard to remain healthy and happy when life gets really busy, but Emma is the perfect reminder that you can do anything you set your mind to.
7. Despite being an actress and an activist, Emma is also a model.
Emma was chosen as the face of Burberry's Autumn/Winter 2009 collection, and again for the 2010 Spring/Summer collection. "I love fashion. I think it's so important, because it's how you show yourself to the world," said Watson.8. Although no role will ever live up to Hermione, Emma took a huge step out of her comfort zone when playing Nicki in Sofia Coppola's movie "The Bling Ring."
This role was a massive breakthrough in Emma's career, due to the stark contrast between playing the innocent Hermione to playing Nicki, a spoiled brat who also happens to be a thief. Emma really enjoyed the opportunity to work with such an influential director and play a role that challenged her as an actress and made her think about herself as a person.
9. She is slated to be Belle in the Disney live adaptation of "Beauty and the Beast."
Dreams really do come true. Emma Watson is set to play the role of Belle in Bill Condon's live action version of "Beauty and the Beast." She will star alongside Luke Evans as Gaston, Ewan McGregor as Lumiere and Dan Stevens as Beast. Also this is somewhat of a reunion for Emma because Stephen Chbosky, author of "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," wrote the script! I cannot wait to see this movie when it comes out in 2017.
10. She rocks a pixie cut (this is so hard to do).
As someone with short hair, trust me when I say it is not an easy thing to pull off. Although her fans were sad to see her long locks go, this do is adorable yet sophisticated, just like Emma. She has even been quoted saying that she felt her sexiest when she had the pixie haircut. I personally love her with any hair but the pixie cut is definitely one of my favorite styles on her.
11. She is probably just the cutest person ever.
I mean come on people, look at her smile! It just kills me.
If this article didn't convince you that Emma Watson is the greatest human being to ever grace planet Earth, than I don't think anything will. So I guess all that is left to say is thank you for being you, Emma.
