My hometown is like any other small southern town. It has only two stoplights, and the biggest thing happening on a Friday night is a high school football game. I miss my time living there, but I do not miss the town. I don't miss the town because it is not the town I remember.
After I left for college, I missed my hometown, but not anymore.
Upon my first visit to my hometown since I left, I realized that everything had changed. My friends will never all be in the same place again. Some people have moved, and some people have changed. I have friends getting married, some in jail, some still living with their parents, and as sad as it is, some are dead.
My hometown no longer has anything for me. Even in high school, there was nothing happening in little Port Saint Joe, Florida. For kids, there is sports leagues, fairs, festivals, and other things to keep kids busy, but nothing for young adults. I am a guest in my own parents' house, and every time I go home, as much as I enjoy seeing my family and friends that are still there, I cannot wait to leave.
