When it comes to constitutional rights and amendments that have been ratified, a good amount of people have spoken out about the second amendment, or the right to bear arms. Many people are eager to throw away a right they have never had to use because someone else abused their right to bear arms. A loaded gun is something you never want to have to use in defense, but too often a loaded gun will end up in the hands of someone who is uneducated in how to properly respect it. Does this have you asking some serious questions like: Could our forefathers predict this mass shooting epidemic? Why did they even give us the right to bear arms? Should we turn in our weapons and give up our right?
"You know why there's a Second Amendment? In case the government fails to follow the first one." - Rush Limbaugh
The government has been created to protect certain unalienable rights.
The right to self defense of a free state is to always be protected by the United States Government. It is considered just as precious and important as freedom of speech. We can all think of times that people have abused their rights, some for higher morality, some for plain ignorance and some for evil.
Have we forgotten, as Americans, where we have come from? To have our hands tied under the British monarchy with no rights? No freedoms? The founders of our country saw it vital to establish our rights then include the option to protect it.
The government ideally is an aggressive force that passionately protects the people. As we have seen it over and over in history, no government is ideal. Our forefathers didn't include the fact that gun owners should take proper training courses and receive background checks before being able to possess firearms; however, taking guns from those who are trained and educated does not stop the wrong people from being able to get their hands on guns.
The guns are not the problem, it is the lack of education and respect for firearms. Taking the right to protect my family, my home and my country will not fix the hate that lives in mass shooters' hearts.
