In music today, there seems to be an ongoing trend that does not leave the listener in a very good mood. It seems to be the new wave for artists to announce a new project on a specific date, but when the time comes, there is nothing to be seen. This is something that has been very popular in music today, but this is not the first time this stunt has been pulled. The perfect example is Dr. Dre's album, "Detox." Around 2002, Dr. Dre was on fire. He was seeing the most success he has ever seen with his career with the success of his newest Aftermath artist Eminem blowing up the charts with his new album "The Marshall Mathers LP," and the release of his solo debut album with his new label Aftermath, "2001." After all of this happening for Dre, he felt it was time for the next step: Another album. He goes on to announce his new project, "Detox" and, well, long story short, it's 2016 and there is still no album.
Some people could look at this in a few ways. In one way it could help the artist with promotion because it will more than likely get more people to notice if so many others are complaining about the delay. However, it could have a negative effect because it could make people so upset that they do not even want to listen to the project anymore. One artist who has been doing this for more than a year is Frank Ocean. Frank Ocean is known for debuting with the crew from California called Odd Future. This group was led by rapper Tyler, The Creator and he would go on to help build careers for not only Frank, but other artists like Earl Sweatshirt and Domo Genesis. Frank has been gone for some time now with his last release being in 2012 with "channel ORANGE," which would go on to be received very well by the community. After three years, the world finally hears word from Frank with a new album title and a release date that was supposed to be in 2015. Well, it is currently August of 2016 and the album known as "Blond" has been released.
This is something that seems to be ongoing and some just can not see why. There could be a million reasons as to why some of these albums get pushed back or go as far to not even be released and that is fine. Just do not go out and promote the album with a date and then not release it on that day. This could lead to hurting the artist in more ways than they could imagine. If the artist knows there could be something that might delay the album, then do not put out a release date. Save not only yourself some trouble, but the fans too.
