All diets are hard to get used to and hard to get on board with. Once you finally start your diet, you see amazing results. And I wish I could say the same for us Louisianans. Dieting in Louisiana is hard as all get out. Our food is so fab you won't want to put an end to your eating. And I'm not exaggerating, our food is A1. Basically diets are unheard of in Louisiana. Many of you may ask why it's hard to diet in the south, well here it goes, my best shot to explain to y'all.
1. CRAWFISH.
Need I say more? I'm pretty sure Louisiana houses the most crawfish eating people in the country. Like y'all don't understand how amazing they are until you get your hands on some. And when you do, you want some all the time. God bless crawfish season!
2. So many different restaurants to try.
From Middendorf's in Manchac to Commanders Palace and Louisiana Pizza Kitchen in New Orleans, we have a wide variety of food and restaurants. Some might be off the beaten path, but they're the best restaurants that are in existence.
3. Large amounts of food.
Normally when you go to a restaurant anywhere else, you get normal portions of food. But come to Louisiana and order a meal just for yourself (aka the football team), you'll have Mount Everest on your plate. This goes for every restaurant in the area, from Mexican food to Italian to Creole. #southernprobs
4. Cafe du Monde.
Once again, need I say more? Even though I can always get my hands on some beignets, I never get tired of them.
5. Desserts.
New Orleans, and all over Louisiana, have the best deserts. In order to live in Louisiana, a sweet tooth is a requirement. By the way, no one can do bread pudding like NOLA can!
6. While we're on deserts, KING CAKE.
In my personal opinion, the best King Cakes come from Randazzo's! And yes, you can get them year round!
7. Red beans and rice.
I personally think my Nannys' red beans are the best out there, but, yano, people beg to differ.
8. Popeye's Chicken.
Y'all, Popeye's chicken is so amazing. I don't know how the rest of the country doesn't get a taste.
9. Shrimp and grits.
Yes, grits you eat for breakfast suddenly becomes lunch or dinner. It's exactly what it sounds like.
10. Alcohol.
Hand grenades, hurricanes, Louisiana brewed beer, sazeracs, and all of the alcohol in between. Louisiana knows how to party and the party starts with our fattening alcohol.
11. Po-boys.
A sandwich that is very fattening but equally amazing. There are many different combinations from a potato sandwich to a shrimp po-boy.
So, these are perfect examples of why dieting is so hard in Louisiana. I love seeing tourists eat our traditional food or drink our crazy drinks because they really don't know what to expect, I'm awkward. I'm glad they can eat and go crazy over our food, they never want to leave. But let's be honest, food is all the rage here in Louisiana. Happy dieting!
