The year: 2012. The trend: Vine. The place: in the palm of your hand.

Three years ago, when I first heard of a new app that consisted of a profile where users simply post 6-second videos, I thought it would pretty much blow over in a few weeks. Now millions of users and posts later, Vine has reached the height of social media popularity and, sadly, is starting to fade out of focus. My question: why?

This app produced countless trends and catch phrases that connected people everywhere. Not to mention the slew of talented teenagers and adults that were skyrocketed to fame nearly overnight. Overall Vine was and continues to be one of the best apps of all time, and here are a few people and trends to prove it.

1. Tish

If you've ever heard the phrase, "I'm in my mum's car. Broom, broom," then you should definitely reference this girl, Tish. With just a simple jingle and a little joyriding fun, Tish stole the hearts of million and spawned countless remakes and spoofs of her awkward tune.

2. "Crack Kid"

Have you been entertained, very disturbed and also worried for today's youth at the same time? Was it due to this video? The "Crack Kid" captivated Vine users across the globe last year with his shrill shriek and unmatched energy. Also, the cameraman has taught us all a thing or two about proper babysitting methods.

3. Twenty-one

Math: It's hard for all of us. This little guy went through something all of us do at one point or another: the embarrassment of faulty addition. But who needs math when you have Vine to shoot you to the top of the social media catchphrase heap? Keep doing you, lil' buddy, keep doing you.

4. "Bruh"

Before "bruh," the world never had a word to sum up that feeling of complete and utter disappointment. Now, after countless remakes, "bruh" has snuck its way into American everyday vernacular. So whether you drop an ice cream cone on the ground or your friend calls Africa a country, you always have the perfect response.

5. WHAT ARE THOSE?!

What. Are. Those. Three simple words that submerges their receiver in instant embarrassment. I don't know if it's the poster's fearless taunting of a cop or his comedic passion for fashion, but something about this Vine has secured it safely in the Vine Hall of Fame.

Overall, 6-second videos may be small, but they are mighty. They turn regular high school students into Internet celebrities and pointless sentence fragments into national inside jokes. So next time you're bored, log into Vine for a while and do your part to bring back the best social media app ever.
