I was accepted to West Virginia University in December of my senior year of high school. At that time, I was positive I wanted to go into the medical field so I set my major as Nursing. Once I received my acceptance letter in the mail it stated that I had been placed into CLASS to prepare myself for when it came time to actually apply to the School of Nursing. A few months went by and I started to question myself and thought about how I had always wanted to go into pediatrics.
It was a long shot but I then decided to switch to Biology. Once I got my letter back for switching over to Bio I was content...for a few months. Senior year was winding down and I was starting to realize how much work Bio would actually be so, of course, I switched yet again, this time to Philosophy aka my easy way out.
I didn't give it any more thought until I came to Morgantown for New Student Orientation in June. The counselor who was helping me create my schedule could tell that I wasn't pleased with the path that I had chosen and asked me what I really wanted to do in life. I told her how I wanted to pursue a career in the medical field but it was just intimidating to me. She recommended that I set my major as Undecided until I was confident in what I wanted to do. She introduced me to a newer major, Immunology and Medical Microbiology, and I loved it.
So even though I was undecided at the time, I made my first semester the first stepping stones into getting accepted into that major. Fast forward four months and here I am again, first meeting with my CLASS advisor completed and what did I do once again? I changed my major. Forensic and Investigative Sciences here I come.
For any seniors that are as confused with their lives as I am, declaring as Undecided for at least my first month of college was the best decision I could have ever made.
