The devil of Hell's Kitchen has come off of its season hiatus with new characters and conflicts and I loved every second of it. Having just finished watching the second reason of "Daredevil" I want to talk about what made the second season so great in my eyes. From the new characters to the old, this season is definitely worth the watch.
1. The Punisher
When it was first announced that the Punisher was going to be in "Daredevil" and then get his own spin-off television show on Netflix, I was a little worried as to how they would portray Frank Castle. Would he be portrayed as a killer with no reason for doing so, and would viewers have to wait for his show to come out to give him more depth and character development? Well, I am glad to say I was wrong. In my opinion, Frank was the best part of "Daredevil" season 2. He provided an interesting dynamic for Matt aka Daredevil by being not only the exact opposite for everything Matt stands for in the law, but also a mirror into the future of what Matt could become. Not to mention the ending where he takes a can of spray paint to that bullet proof vest and draws on his Punisher symbol got me so excited for the Punisher series.
2. Elektra
Elektra was another character who I was worried about. Having known of Elektra from reading some of the comics I was worried about the way they were going to portray her. The "Daredevil" movie and later the "Elektra" movie both portrayed her as a try-hard based around the trope of the strong independent woman. I was so happy with the way Elodie Yung played her character. She is still tough but not a stereotype of what it means to be a strong female character. She was flirty, tough, and just a little crazy and I love it. With her entry into the series, I was worried how the writers would play her as Matt's love interest especially with Karen around. To my happy surprise, they didn't play up the love triangle and Matt actually did make choices involving his relationship with Elektra.
3. Foggy and Karen
I've always liked Foggy from season one, but I would be lying if I didn't say that at times his and Karen's presence in the show during season one felt unneeded at times. Karen did have some interesting plot lines in season one, but it kind of dropped toward the end. Season two gave them much bigger story lines and even character development. I'm interested to see how his new job is going to work out for him and I wonder how they're going to fit in Karen now that she's a reporter.
4. Daredevil
I was happy that Matt's moral choices was a big part of the second season. I enjoyed seeing how he would react to the Punisher and Elektra. It frustrated me to see him mess up his social and work life but I was glad that they showed it. Many superhero-centered books, or cartoons show heroes not being able to mange their life only once or every so often. For Matt it was a slow progression until his work as the Daredevil completely over shadowed his work as a lawyer. It felt more satisfying to see him make up with Foggy and Karen in this season because he had taken his relationships with them through the ringer.
Marvel has been doing a lot lately with their characters. I'm excited to see how Marvel will handle Daredevil's next season. If they keep this up I'm sure it will be great.
