Why I Couldn't Be The Bachelorette

Teenage/college girls, their moms, and even their boyfriends tune in every Monday night on ABC for the popular reality show, "The Bachelorette". Each season, one woman searches for her husband in a sea of 25 men who audition for a spot. Some come for a shot at love, but some come for fame. Besides fishing through the good and the bad boys, the Bachelorette has to deal with so many things that I don’t think I could ever do. I’m sure being the Bachelorette is cool, but I couldn’t do it.

For one, I couldn’t possibly date 2 guys, let alone 25. I’m sure Chris Harrison has cue cards for their names because there is no way in hell that she knows them all the first few weeks. Another really obvious thing is the fact that she becomes emotionally attached to so many of them. How hard/confusing to your heartstrings must it be to fall for more than one person, and potentially have your heart broken.

Okay so I’ll admit, the dates are unreal. I’m sure there is nothing wrong about traveling around the world, to a new exotic location once a week, but the outfits?! Come on. I can barely pack for a weekend at my boyfriend’s, let alone prepare for a month long excursion with tons of hot men. You need 100 bras, 500 cute rompers, a different bathing suit for each guy, and so much more. Don’t even get me started on the cocktail and rose ceremony dresses. I read an article recently that the Bachelorette contestants have to purchase all of their outfits (except for the first and final episodes). So if that’s the case, how many shopping trips did it take for them to find those?

Regardless of the outfits, the one thing that all of us girls know we could never do: the rose ceremony. If the dramatic music and slowed pace as she calls each name doesn't do it for you, then I don't know what will. Just put yourself in her shoes for a second (Louboutins, obviously). After going on a romantic date with 5 of the guys and kissing each of them, 3 of them have to go home. You have to call them out in front of their entire sea of competition, and watch as they walk away and fly all the way back to reality. If that's not hard enough, throw in a 2-on-1 with two of your favorites and have to choose only one. All in front of a camera crew.

While on the topic of the camera crew, I can't help but think about the tears. Every woman cries so much per episode, that it has to be in her contract. Must cry in the following conditions: when confused, indecisive, each rose ceremony, when happy, or when you're bored. The camera crew catches the worst sniffling, ugly crying angles on purpose, and looking back I'm sure they cry all over again seeing their close-ups.

I know, being the Bachelorette may look picture perfect, but in reality, it takes name memorizing, buckets of tears and no problem sending hot men home once a week. Count me out.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
