Sure, you've heard list of reasons why college isn't all it's cracked up be, but what about the reasons why it is?
A worry upcoming college students have is that you don't start out with as many friends that you had while in high school. While that is true, take this into consideration: it is so easy to make new friends. Everyone around you is in the same boat you are; college freshmen are just a bunch of eager fish thrown in a big pond ready to make new friendships so they don't have to face this new college thing alone. Speaking of friends, who they are is now completely up to you; this is another reason why college is all it's cracked up to be. No more "Well I guess we're friends because we are forced to see each other every day." You actually have to make an effort to see your friends, and efforts being made is a way to know the friendships are real.
It sometimes freaks students out how relaxed and random the average college schedule is. It really has no structure to start out. However, it is your schedule. You have the freedom to do whatever you want with this. No one is here to tell you what to do, and sometimes you miss that because it would make things easier, but it helps you grow up (the worst, I know).
Some people hate how you have to decide at the age of 18 what you want to do for the rest of your life. This isn't totally true, though. You can always change your major, and you have plenty of time to try out different areas to discover what you can't stand and what you can see yourself doing. Sooner or later, you figure out what you want to do with your life and it's so exciting when that moment happens.
One of my biggest fears, which I soon found out was a common fear among the other freshmen, was I would mess up big time and have no idea what I was doing. Not to worry though, you shouldn't even question it. You will not know what you are doing. No one does. College is a no judgement zone when it comes to this, we're trying to figure it all out too. I have not met a single person who knew everything and executed it perfectly. You can get lost on the way to class (two months after classes started, in my case) and ask for directions. You can repeat outfits (seriously, having different classes Monday, Wednesday, Friday, classes and Tuesday, Thursday rocks).
People come back home and they say they made the wrong decision when picking a college and it didn't work out. It puts fear into potential students and it makes them question if they are making the right decision. The truth is, if it's meant to be, it will happen. No matter where you go, things will fall into place. You fall in love with your new home. And you see why college is all it's cracked up to be.
