My family, for me, is irreplaceable. They're the people I go to whenever I need advice or to laugh and are always there for me and know what to say or do to make everything better. My family and I obviously live together and spend most of our time with one another; from good morning and breakfast to goodnight and everything in between, we're together. I make some of my favorite memories with them. But when college came around, it was almost like being isolated from them. Of course texting and phone calls daily were great, but it really wasn't the same. Without them with me everyday, it was a lot different and a little scary, but somehow a month went by and in a blink of an eye I had a new group of friends that become my family.
In college, you live with your roommate, floor mates and dorm mates. You study together, go out on the weekends, eat together, sleep together, spend endless nights together laughing and talking. This ends up creating life long bonds that turn into your college family. Don't get me wrong, my biological family can never be replaced, but I wouldn't trade my friends I made my first year for the world.
The best friends I made in my dorm will be my friends for life. It seems so surreal that it's over and I honestly don't think I would mind another year in dorms if it meant living with them, even in those square boxes of rooms and worse-than-parents RA's. It's the absolute most amazing thing to have your friends in the same building as you to go to when you want to hangout, cry, go out, study, or whatever else. Having my absolute best friends fifteen feet down the hall or an elevator ride down was the biggest blessing of my freshman year.
I spent every morning with them in the dreaded community bathrooms getting ready for the 8 a.m.'s I shouldn't have signed up for, ate with them throughout the day at the cafeteria, hung out between classes, and, of course, we spent every night with one another when we weren't at the library.
Of course I didn't only make friends in my dorm. I made friends in Greek life, classes, and just life in general. These friends are beyond amazing and I know I couldn't live without them. As I spent almost all my time with my friends, they have become my everything. I know their schedules, their lives, and we are always their for one another. I have spent months with them as we tried to figure out how to live like adults independent teenagers. We have been there for each other through all the breakdowns, stressful nights, the laughs, the funny moments, and the best memories. I can't wait to spend the next 3 years together with my college family, and forever after that.
