The best things about Unc Charlotte

UNC Charlotte may not be the biggest or most popular college but it is growing super fast. I am not surprised; it is an amazing school and has a great city to go with it. There are so many things to see and do around Charlotte. The school is amazing but also all the things to do around Charlotte really drew me in, here are a few:

1. The Campus

UNCC has such a beautiful campus. It is growing and expanding so rapidly but it is looking so good. All the new buildings are looking amazing and just adding to the beauty of the school. With the addition of a football team to campus, we now have a student tailgate village which is a lot of fun. Even if you do not attend the game it is still fun to go hang out and support the 49ers. Plus, as an added bonus, all the places to eat on campus rock.

2. BOA Stadium

The home of the Carolina Panthers is only a mere 20 min from the school. Even if you are not a Panthers fan it is still something fun to do on Sunday. There are tailgates and even if you do not attend the game all the restaurants around offer some place warm to watch the game and to continue your Sunday-funday. The Panthers bring the city together and the games are so much fun to attend. It is definitely an added bonus to UNCC.

3. Epicenter

The Epicenter, for those of you who do not know, is a four-story hub of nightlife. There are clubs, restaurants, bars and even a movie theater. It is such a fun place because you can bar hop without even having to walk more than a few feet. It is a fun and easy place to meet at and there is something for everyone to do. During the day there are plenty of places to eat lunch or grab a smoothie but at night it is all about the bars and clubs.

4. Light Rail

The light rail, as of right now, only runs in uptown Charlotte. The construction is underway to bring it all the way to UNCC. There will be a stop on campus which means that you can take the train uptown for a small fee and then you do not have to worry about a car or traffic. Whether you are having a night on the town or going to a football game or even a concert, you do not have to worry about drinking and driving. Some people would say that is what Uber is for but with Uber you still have to sit in all the traffic of the event. The light rail bypasses traffic and you can get back to UNCC safely and quickly.

5. Spectrum Center

Not only is it the home of the Charlotte Hornets, it is also a very popular concert venue. The Hornets games are a lot of fun to attend and you can normally go for pretty cheap-- which is great for college students. The arena is also the concert venue for almost every big name that comes through Charlotte (which is great because then you do not have to travel far to see all of the amazing artists that you love).

6. PNC Pavilion

This outdoor concert venue is wonderful. In the summer months, all the country artists come to town and it is so much fun to go see them. The Vans Warped Tour also comes to this location every year. At PNC, while there are seats and VIP boxes along with the pit, there is a lawn that you can sit on. The lawn is so much fun to sit at because it is an amazing atmosphere to watch a concert. There are a ton of people just singing and having a great time.

7. The People

This topic is kind of broad but I just love all the diversity of UNCC. There are so many different clubs and groups of people to get involved with at Charlotte. Everyone is very welcoming and helpful and it is just such a good student body. There is something for everyone and that makes this school feel very accepting.

8. Uptown

Just the whole uptown Charlotte scene is amazing. It has something for every walk of life. There are so many restaurants and clubs and all sorts of night life. There is even a 24 hour french bakery. The school being so close to such a big city is so much fun. The city also offers a lot of good internship opportunities. There are also tons of job opportunities and just so much to do.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
