Why I Chose To Write For The Odyssey
The Odyssey Online

As a first year college student, I was always seeking out new things to be a part of and grow with during my undergraduate years. I saw the link for the Odyssey team application come up on my Facebook feed and knew I had to check it out. I had always seen the "Open Letter To" articles floating around, but never really knew how exactly they came about. So once I heard that The Odyssey Online was launching a team at my university, I knew I wanted to be a part of it.

Thankfully, I was able to play a larger role as the Editor and Chief and immediately gained access to thousands of different ways to express myself, and was able to help others do the same. Here are the reasons why I joined, and if your school has an Odyssey team, I would encourage you to join as well!

1. The Odyssey lets your voice be heard.

Show everyone what you can do, whether it's writing stories, making great listicles, or covering a brand new topic, do it. The Odyssey gives you the platform to be unique, so let your own light shine!

2. You have the option to write about anything you want to.

From trending topics, to letters to your best friends, the Odyssey doesn't have set things you have to write about, instead you chose what you want to compose!

3. Everyone on your team is extremely helpful.

If you're new and you have no idea what you're doing, chances are you can ask someone on your team for help and they'll be more than happy to lend you their ear!

4. Your content can go viral.

Recently, one of my articles reached 2,000 plus shares, and Lord if that wasn't a good feeling! You have the platform availability to reach thousands of people and get your story heard.

5. This looks amazing on a resume.

Being a part of something that gives you practice with writing, following deadlines, and covering stories is an amazing way to start creating a resume. If you are an English, Communication, Journalism, and even Business major, this will definitely look amazing on your resume, especially if you are a part of the team for your entire four years!

So again, don't pass up the opporunity to get your voice out there. Be heard, and join your local Odyssey team!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
