Many times I get asked why I chose a career in this crazy business. Out of all the people out there auditioning, only 5% get jobs. It's definitely not the most practical career choice. Even I question why I chose to pursue this. There's a lot of taxing work involved and it's not always enjoyable. So why do it?
Contrary to popular belief, not everybody who goes into performing arts is in it for the fame. In my case, it was never like that. It was never about fame or money, because if you know anything about performing it's not always steady money. I grew up with people telling me that I should do something more practical and would make me more money. But that was never important to me. I wanted to make sure that when I grew up, I would be doing something that would make me happy. And I was always happiest when I was performing. Every time I was on a stage, I just could not stop smiling. Each time I would perform I would say to myself, "This is what I need to do for the rest of my life."
If you have the job you love, you'll never work.
That's the motivation I have to keep doing what I love. It all may be hard work right now but in the end it will all be worth it.
