Why I Can Relate To The Show “Modern Family”

"Think inside the box. That's right, I said inside. Because while everyone is chasing each other outside, what is the box? Empty." - Phil Dunphy

It’s no surprise that the hit show "Modern Family" is one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a while. Every time I sit down to watch an episode, or five, I end up laughing so hard my stomach hurts. I think it has something to do with the fact that the story line is just so relatable to everyone. I’m sure we all have a high strung mom, scatterbrained younger siblings, or a grumpy grandpa. The dynamic between cast members is spot on, and the show is a perfect example of how different families react to real world dilemmas.

I know that I am just one of many people who love this show, so obviously they must have done something right. The formula for a successful show like "Modern Family" doesn't come around often, so the fact that so many different people from all corners of the world can relate to it and find it funny means that this show is truly something special.

If you haven’t seen the show yet, we probably can’t be friends if you haven’t, then I would definitely recommend running, not walking, to your nearest television or laptop so that you can see for yourself what all the hype is about.

Warning: Once you start watching this show, you probably wont be able to stop, and then you will get really invested and spend the next 3 weeks obsessively watching all 7 seasons. Not like it’s a bad thing though…

Although the show has many different aspects to it that make it relatable, here are some of my personal favorites:

1. Blended family.

From an adopted child from Vietnam, to a second marriage to a woman from Colombia— the show portrays the relatable mix of races and backgrounds that many of us have throughout our own family.

2. Multicultural story lines.

There are characters from varying cultures, so you get a taste of modern politics and the stereotypes that we often have around these cultures. An example is when Gloria talks about her upbringing in Colombia and how poverty and violence was normal for her. However, her character talks about it in such a humorous way that it doesn't seem political or stuffy.

3. Real life problems.

The number one reason that this show is so relatable is because it actually seems real. You find yourself saying “wow that is so my family!” multiple times throughout an episode. They take everything from college, marriage, and even the struggles of taking a family photo and turn it into something that everyone can connect with.

4. The relationship the cast has.

This cast has undeniable chemistry. It’s evident when you watch the show and makes you fall in love with every single one of the characters!

5. Cross-generational humor.

It doesn't matter if you are nine or 90, everyone will find humor in "Modern Family." It taps into so many different generations, which makes it easy for anyone and everyone to associate with.

"Modern Family" is just one of those shows that captures the moments that every single person goes through and portrays it in a way that is not only hilarious, but also makes you feel more comfortable about your crazy family dynamic. Now go grab some popcorn and see for yourself why this show is so good!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
