Why Brothers Are Blessings

Many guys will go in and out of a girls life, but there is one guy that is sure to stay: the brother(s).
Growing up, you can't stand each other and you fight constantly, but lets not forget the moments of him playing on the trampoline with you or scaring away the monsters in your room. We're talking all the way up to when you yourself graduated high school and finally stepped into the big girl world of a university. That's when things become really scary. Lucky for me though, I had my big brother about thirty miles away. Many people, like myself, take their older brothers for granted for much of their lives, and as much as you hate to say it (because you know it will inflate their ego) they are usually right. There are many things in my life that I have never thanked my big brother for, and brothers everywhere should see the appreciation that their sisters actually do have for them.

1) Thank you for the days where we did nothing but play on the trampoline.

Thank you for not laughing at me when I totally wiped out and basically ate the trampoline, it happened. Remember that one time I chipped my tooth on the door frame while you were chasing me, and you cried more than I did? Good times bro, good times.

2) Thank you for trying to teach me how to defend myself (physically and emotionally).

I know my brother wasn't the only one that tried to basically be a self defense coach and wrestle with me on moms bed. Disney channel, and mini self defense classes? Kids these days have nothing on us with their iPads and cell phones.

3) Thank you for acting as a father figure when dad wasn't around, even when I didn't appreciate it at the moment.

Everyone's situation is different, and ours is pretty unique. I never thought I'd thank you for scaring off some of my friends or telling me "no" to something that I see now was potentially dangerous. I know now that it wasn't for your enjoyment, but you caring for me that was the reason for it all.

4) Thank you for teaching me not to settle.

When I tried to go out with guys that were complete losers or didn't treat me right, you were always the first one to tell me to move along. This goes for everything in life, you taught me who to trust, but still support me when I'm stubborn and decide to ignore your advice, and after I find out your right once again, you're always there to pick me back up. No matter what the situation has been, you've taught me to do what is best for me, and my loved ones.

5) Thank you for always answering my texts, no matter how annoying or stupid they are.

No comments needed.

6) Thank you for teaching me what good movies are, and for having full conversations that are basically just movie quotes.

"Step Brothers," "Talladega Nights," "Billy Madison," and your favorite: "Lone Star State of Mind."

7) Thank You for everything you've ever done for me.

I could write all day about the things you've taught me and have done for me, which is, in my opinion, something to be extremely thankful for. Thank you for all of the little things, such as dragging me to baseball games. Thank you for actually wanting to hangout with me and for dropping everything when I need you. Thank you for teaching me things such as how to shoot a gun and how to drive, or should I say being brave enough to sit in the car while I drive. You understand my busy schedule and you're always sure to check up on me when you know I'm super stressed.

I have many reasons why you're a major blessing to me and why you have such an impact on my life. Big brothers are God's gifts to the little sisters of the world; sometimes it just takes 17 years to realize it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
