As someone who was raised with countless pets, I have always had an undeniable appreciation for animals. I’ve always been the kind of person who stops to pet other peoples dogs, frequently resulting in getting myself left behind in public places. I remember watching “Marley & Me” for the first time and crying my eyes out. With that being said, any movie or book about dogs has always been intriguing to me.
As I don’t particularly like going to the movies, it takes a lot for me to consider going to the theatre for any movie, but I was instantly excited about the movie ‘A Dog’s Purpose’. But with the news broken recently by TMZ, I’m choosing to boycott this movie, and you should too.
In a video released by TMZ (that you can find here), you can find someone on the set of ‘A Dog’s Purpose’ attempting to push a German Shepherd into a pool of water with a very harsh current. The dog is seemingly very nervous and extremely scared and uses every ounce of it’s strength to stay away from the water despite the countless attempts to push the dog in. As if this wasn’t troubling in itself, the video also includes footage of the dog attempting to swim in the current. Although, the German Shepherd is accompanied by someone while attempting to keep him/herself afloat in the pool, the dog eventually becomes submerged underwater while the crew shouts for the videographer to stop filming and the video then ends.
Watching the video I was enraged, how can anyone subject any animal to this stress/abuse? But, what particularly frustrates me is that this is a movie that is about the value and purpose of a dog… how can they even claim to respect these animals after subjecting these animals to such distress? The scariest thought of it all, what if no one had exposed this video? What if we had no idea what these animals were subjected to, just for our “entertainment”? So keep this in mind when you consider going to the movies, or any place in which animals are mistreated for “entertainment”. Animals and pets are meant to be appreciated and loved, not exploited or abused.
So, please join me and many others in boycotting ‘A Dog’s Purpose’ and any other environment were animals are exploited. These animals are helpless, there is only so much fight they can put up, it is up to us to speak out on behalf of their safety.
