Why Being Spontaneous Is the Best Way to Live

What does it mean to live life to the fullest? Is it in the people you spend time with or the actions you take? Living life to its fullest is one of the most crucial things we can do for ourselves, especially in college. Our college years, being some of the best of our lives, set us on track to success and our future. However, it is important to put yourself out there, make moves, and take chances you never thought you would take.

The perfect word to describe the life all college students should live is spontaneously, to live in such a manner is to be adventurous, take risks, and never be afraid to fall. It's about hopping in a car and driving where ever it takes you. It's about joining a club that's out of your comfort zone. It's most importantly about allowing yourself to do the unexpected and having faith that you can conquer anything.

Allow yourself to live like there's no tomorrow; you have no reason not to. Living for the present is one of the best things you can do for yourself. That sense of adventure that you get from doing something spontaneous will truly make you happier. Some of the best things you can do to make your life more spontaneous, are meeting new people and allowing yourself to be open to new opportunities, traveling to new places and exploring new things, and lastly, allowing your curiosity to explore the wonders of the world.

In our day to day, especially as college students, we live monotonously, going to class to homework to exams. Spontaneity is crucial as we endure our young lives because this is our time to be carefree. We are in our years of growth. We're learning from our successes and mistakes, but we become stagnant if we don't take those risks. We must open ourselves up to opportunities with our academic life, our career, our social life, etc. Our future awaits, and we'll never know where we're going to end up.

The moral of the story is to live for today. Take charge of your life, and never let anything stop you from living out your dreams. These dreams and goals we hope to live out in the future can only be made more worthwhile when you add spontaneity in your life. It will open yourself up to more goals you hope to accomplish and make your current goals seem more achievable and more worth the energy you put into achieving them.

The opportunities you take and the memories you make while allowing yourself to explore the world will bring you to find yourself and to find your infinite happiness. As E.E. Cummings said, "Once we believe in ourselves, we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight, or any experience that reveals the human spirit."

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
