Being single during summer when you have more free time on your hands and no significant other to spend it with can get kind of depressing at times.
But there are so many positive things about being single that we miss when we are in a relationship. So here are a few of the many reasons that being single is pretty awesome.
1. You get to invest your time in working on yourself
All those classes you have always wanted to take, books you have always wanted to read, and hobbies you have always wanted to try, you now suddenly have time for. Being single is a great time to pick up a new language, learn to paint, or take a martial arts class. Being single means that you get to invest your time how you want to. You do not have to worry about saving time for your significant other. Sometimes in a relationship you get lost in the other person. You start being the person you think they want you to be. Being single means you can figure out who you really are.
2. You get to invest your time in other relationships
As college students, it never seems like there is enough time for all the things we want to do. Because our time is limited, it can be easy to neglect other relationships in order to spend time with our significant other. Being single means you do not have to divide your time between your significant other and your friends and family.
3. Independence
You could jump in your car right now and drive down to beach or Vegas or go to a party and flirt with as many guys as you want and no one could stop you. You can hang out with anyone you want and no one is going to get jealous or bug you about it. You can sit in your bed and watch The Notebook while eating an entire carton of ice cream and no one is going to judge you. You can pretty much do whatever it is that you want to do, and that is wonderful.
4. No drama
You do not have to spend nights crying your self to sleep over some fight with your significant other. You will no longer have to waste your time on relationship drama. Instead you can use the extra time to sit on your couch and watch TV.
5. Opportunities you might not have taken
Being in a relationship sometimes makes tough choices even tougher. Do I take that job out of state? becomes Do I choose my career or love? When you are single you are not faced with those tough choices. You can choose what is best for you without worry about hurting someone else in the process.
Other perks include:
Not having to share the remote, sticking to your own shaving preferences, not getting the 3rd degree from his/her family, eating whatever you want, no Valentine’s Day obligations, and letting your room get messy whenever you want.
