We all have opinions over things that don't really matter. However, not everyone enjoys the same things, and not everyone has the same opinion as us.
Many people love going to the movies and many people love to keep up with our favorite stories. Recently, a movie reviewing website called Rotten Tomatoes has received flak for giving the new movie "Suicide Squad" a bad review. After the review came out for the movie a petition was started to close the website. There is just one problem with this, and that is that it's an opinion.
Rotten Tomatoes is nothing more than people's opinion of a movie. In no way does their opinion affect our everyday lives or alter our opinion of our own favorite movies despite what they say. An opinion is something that everyone has and the thing about opinions is that you have to learn that other people have them too. It's okay for other people to have opinions that conflict with your own. Even if it's a topic that is a little bit more serious, other people's opinions will not hurt you. And that is one of the beautiful things about our country. Here in America, you are aloud to speak your mind even if it conflicts with what the government is doing. If you do speak against what the government is doing, no one will show up at your doorstep to take you away.
Despite the freedom that we are afforded here, other people still attempt to shut down the opinions of others. What is sad is how insignificant this conflict is. Don't get me wrong, I love movies just as much as the next guy, but they're just movies. Rotten Tomatoes has had a series of bad reviews for all DC Comic movies. Some people claim that Rotten Tomatoes has a problem with all things DC which sparked the petition for the closing of Rotten Tomatoes. The petition surprisingly has had almost 18,000 signatures. This just goes to show how seriously we Americans take our pop culture.
Many of us have opinions over many different things. Some of them are serious and some of them are not. In this case, I think we can find a more serious topic to get riled up over. However, at the end of the day they are nothing more than opinions and we must learn to respect those of others.
