With the Presidential Election right around the corner, the American people are watching the results of and are voting in the primaries to determine who the presidential candidates will be. There are a few shocking faces running for the presidency this year, one of which does not come from a political background. The crazy thing is that he is racking up the primary wins for the Republican Party. Every news station bashes him and all his competitors bash him, but the people are still voting for him. It is a reality that he is a pretty popular guy, but do we want him to be the next President?
When researching the explanation behind why people are voting for Donald Trump in the primaries, I came up with a few answers and now that I think about it, the reasons for voting for Trump are not that surprising. In order to conduct my research, I watched two Republican debates and read the book "Crippled America"written by Donald Trump.
Trump isn’t a politician, and a lot of citizens are weary of politicians. They believe politicians to be liars who work for anyone who will donate them money. Trump has self-funded his campaign and has spent much less than any of the other candidates. In debates, sometimes Trump makes stupid comments and the news media is appalled. In his book, Trump writes, “If you do things a little differently, if you say outrageous things and fight back, they love you."
The media bashes Trump and does not go a day without insulting his candidacy, but all of the negative remarks they make only get Trump more free publicity, “But when they write a story about one of my deals, it doesn’t cost me a cent, and I get more important publicity [than ads]." In the debates, the first question usually goes to Trump and most of the questions following that are “Senator Cruz, do you think Mr. Trump will do…” and “Senator Rubio, how do you think Mr. Trump will go about doing….” Most questions lead back to letting Trump having the opportunity to talk in the debate again, “And I get more minutes, more front-page coverage, more requests for interviews than anyone else." When Donald Trump is the only candidate that the people of America hear about, they are more likely to vote for him. They aren’t going to vote for some "Joe Shmoe" they don’t even know.
Trump also promises change; he wants to “Make America Great Again.” He is connecting with the people who believe that the country is in bad shape, and he is promising them change. He has a plan which hasn’t altered from the very beginning. He wants to build a wall and fix the immigration problem and he wants a stronger military to take out ISIS. Both of these issues are what the American people fear most of all right now, for their safety and their future.
The American people have a huge task before them to vote for who they want to be the next President of the United States. At this point in time, it seems as though the candidate with a plan and the one who is going to implement great change is the candidate which the American people want.
