Why Are Guns Okay But Not Water Bottles?
The Voice

Posting her first video on July 17, 2009, an ambitious female singer recorded herself singing Hannah Montana's "Don't Wanna Be Torn" and uploaded it to Youtube in hopes of pursuing her dreams of becoming a famous singer. Constantly uploading videos of viral songs, Christina Grimmie (zeldaxlove64) was finally given the notice she deserved a couple years later when she created her first album and receiving positive feedback from fans all over the world. Touring with celebrity, Selena Gomez, for a while helped put her in further into the industry and sky rocket her fame.

If you do not know her from Youtube, then you probably remember her from NBC's hit show, "The Voice." Aduitioning with Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" her voice made Usher and Shakira turn their chairs instantly with Adam shortly after. In the end, all four judges were turned around fighting for her to be on their team before she picked team Adam. Successfully making it to the finals, Grimmie placed third and continued to write music for her fans.

In recent events, on June 10 directly after her concert, Grimmie was shot by a gunman as she was signing autographs for fans in Orlando, Florida. Sadly after being rushed to the hospital in efforts to save the superstar, she did not make it and passed away at the age of 22. Condolences and prayers are sent to her family and friends as they are going through this time.

Thoughts such as "Why was the man able to get through the venue when he had two guns?" and "why wasn't security checking better?" raced through fans minds as they heard the news. At most concert venues, water bottles or even soda bottle with caps are forbidden because of people throwing the caps on stage, so whenever they are purchased at a concession stand, the caps are removed. So why was this man able to bring a gun into the venue? With common sense, guns should be banned from concerts, so are we putting water bottles and guns in the same category? Concerts are a place where fans are able to interact with their favorite singers, but now it is a place for violence?

Venues are going to be stepping up their security because of this incident and laws are going to be tested due to fans demanding that guns are to be banned because of this. This is only an assumption, but possibly metal detectors are now going to be installed at even the smallest of venues so something like this does not happen again. Celebrities are going to be more pre-cautious and might even not be allowed to see fans after their segment because of this horrible accident. Events like this have happened in the past, but this seems like it will spark with the amount of love that is sent to Christina.

The saying, "Guns don't kill people, the person behind it does" is a strong statement, but what was the motive behind the killer? Reports have not released the killer's name or motive, but to be fair, I'm not really sure there was a solid one. What has Grimmie done to provoke this man? As for now, friends, family, and fans can only wait to hear who this man was and his background for more information as to why this happened.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
